Good point. And sadly that didn’t work. So monitor?
Actually there was one other change I did. I swapped in 16 gig of memory for 12. The 12 was 2000, the 16 is 1600? Guess I ought to drop it down and put the other memory back, see if that has an impact.
If not, that would leave monitor (TV), which seems strange to me. Why would that cause a problem, I wonder?
Well, off to do the memory test.
Put the other memory back, still behaves this way when I open the friends UI. I guess it’s the monitor (TV).
Only with the friends UI is open? Doesn’t that seem odd? I don’t suppose anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on that one?

It started happening with me, literally out of nowhere. I was playing fine, after someone actually explained to me that they were having this issue. What happens an hour later? I open up my friends list, and drop from 60FPS to 5.

Sadly that didn’t work. I was told I had the most recent version, and I turned off the hardware acceleration per the recommendation and that also didn’t work.
Really odd that it just started happening out of nowhere? I noticed those posts are several months old. I have never had this problem until sometime in the past 2 days.

When did this start happening to you, and did it ever correct itself? I’m guessing not?
For what it’s worth, I tried Fullscreen mode (I usually play windows/full) and that didn’t change anything.

Started a couple days ago, same day I made that post. Still happening now. It went from fine to… well, having this issue, all in one play session. Nothing on my computer changed in that time, nothing new downloaded that might cause it, etc.

Guess we got bit by the same thing at about the same time?
I don’t suppose we have a common path to the servers or provider that might have started throttling something on us?
I’ve got an open support ticket and they are asking me to run lots of diagnostics and upload logs.
Mine is doing the same thing hopefully a moderator can see this and give us advice on what to do. Seen this same issue in other threads but no responses from anet.

I have a support ticket in. A lot of back and forth. They had me run all sorts of diagnostics and upload logs and such. They even had me restart with all my other services that would normally start turned off. I think it got to a point where they said they escalated it, and keep an eye out for something? I don’t know, hopefully that means it made some sort of bug list.
Weird that it seems to have happened out of nowhere?
I hope they fix it, but in the meantime, I’m hoping some kind souls out here might have found a solution to it and wouldn’t mind sharing.
I’m not sure what I was expecting, but after doing all that work for them, they closed my ticket. I guess they don’t want to see it on their reports, they apparently have an excellent closure record.
They did find time to crush that “previewing other factions armor” issue which was sweeping through the game causing imbalances and play issues, preventing the TP economy from collapsing.
So, thank you?

list your driver settings
i don’t get any impact what so ever by opening any of the games UI windows, friends list included.

Do you want the driver version?
As far as settings, I don’t play around with any of the nVidia settings in the control panel. I let it be what it is.
Or did you want to know my in game graphic settings?

Hi! I just wanted to add that I have this issue too.
When I open the Friends window my game’s FPS drops severely until I close the window again.
I play on a desktop PC and sometimes a Laptop and it started happening to both of them around when the Wintersday events began (or maybe a bit before).
This would suggest (no evidence) that it is something in an update rather than a system issue.
I guess it’s not really a big deal unless you have the Friends window open a lot (while fighting?).
Same problem here. Started around the same time as OP, and updating my nVidia drivers didn’t help. I’ll add that the issue also happens with the guild frame open. I’ve read that these two frames make use of Flash, so I’m guessing it’s something wrong with the way it’s interacting with GW2?
Here’s my DxDiag output in case a mod sees this. This isn’t a show stopper or anything, since the interface still works, but it’s certainly annoying. On the character select screen, I go from 60 fps (capped at refresh rate due to vsync) down to 10-16 fps with the friends pane open. I’ve got about 10 or so friends in my list, so there’s not a ton of information being displayed.

Try changing power management mode to “prefer max performance” in nvidia cpl, and disable flash hardware acceleration (rt click → settings, on any youtube video).

I tried the second one. I’ll try the first one, and report my findings, but that will not be a solution, as it was working perfectly fine for months with everything as it was on super high settings.
[Edit: No matter, that did nothing.]
And I’ve been through a really ‘long’ process thus far with support where they make me download and run all these testing programs, upload logs, etc. They even had me restart with ‘no’ extra programs running and that didn’t work. Still no word from them on what the issue is.
Remember this ‘only’ happens when you open your friends list. Why would something seemingly that global only effect ‘one’ UI window?

Hm, the second one did something for me. Before disabling hardware acceleration, opening my contact list/guild list would result in 5-10FPS until closing the menu. After disabling it, I do get the initial drop, but my framerate recovers without the menu being closed.
