Guild Wars 2

I would like to know how come every time I launch GW2 there is a large download. I can understand if an update is released and I have to download an update, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

In the last 3-4 days I have had a large download each time I launch GW2 and in the launcher there isn’t news of updates posted each of the last 3-4 days.

Game is updated frequently as it was just launched 1.5 weeks ago. Are you sure it’s a download though? Is your GW2 shortcut set to -repair? Because that will verify the install every time you launch the game and can take a few minutes.

Like I said, I can understand having to download updates, but in the launcher there isn’t news about a patch/update and yet there’s a download. I also understand that the game is new and updates will be released, but to have to download 50MB each time seems odd. Today the download was about 50MB, I don’t remember the previous amounts.

At the bottom of the launcher I see Downloading xxxxxMB (xxkb/sec). Then the launcher disappears and a new one appears and again at the bottom I see a red progress bar and above the red progress bar it says;

xx% Downloading: xx.xxMB (xxKB/sec) Files remaining: xx

I checked the properties of my gw2 shortcut, under the tab “Shortcut”, the field “Target” says “C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” with nothing after the "" like -repair.

They have been consistently updating the game every night since launch (I am pretty sure) and 50 MB is a very normal patch size.

This is exactly what I am talking about…

Last night around 10pm (GMT-5) I played and had to do a download between 40 and 50MB.

Today I loaded GW2 around 1:30pm (GMT-5) and had to do another download between 40 and 50MB.

If we assume that “game status updates” are patches, well the most recent game status update was on September 10, 2012. Why did I have to do two downloads since then?

It’s getting really annoying to have to wait 10 minutes or so every day to play the game, and not everyone gets unlimited downloads/uploads with their ISP. If I play once per day and have to do this mystery download every day, that’s 1200-1500MB (assuming it’s always between 40 and 50MB which isn’t right since I’ve seen larger downloads). And that’s not counting the data sent back and forth while playing.

I would appreciate it if someone from the GW team could explain this. No offense to other players who try to explain this, but they have no idea whether it’s a patch or not as it seems that there is no patch news being released, only “game status updates”.
