Hello!
I’m hoping someone can help me,
Earlier today I formatted my computer and installed windows 8.1,
Guildwars2 with all the other files were copied to my external and then moved to my desktop when the installation of windows was done.
So basically, what happens is: I launch the gw2.exe file, the launcher appears and at the bottom ‘Downloading 0KB (0KB/sec)’ and thats that.
Nothing else,
When I attempt to double click on it, I get the standard ‘Guild Wars 2 Client is not responding..’’ with the wait, close or check online for solution options
Here is the windows info if it will be of use:

I have all the newest drivers, directx etc. for my computer.
I tried :
-Compatibilty mode,
- ‘-repair,’
-To redownload the client, but the gw2setup.exe file opens, downloads about 20mb, closes, opens again, closes and nothing then O.o
-Deleting the temp file from the .roaming folder
And I doubt if any other command line argument will work as the game does not seem to get past the launcher,
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Did you fully update Windows?
GW2 requires the latest Microsoft .NET software to run correctly.

Did you install DirectX ?
Did you install DirectX ?
I doubt it’s a DX9 issue. DX9 starts to bind after clicking “Play” in the launcher.

Technical Support
Hey there,
I’d like for you to try the following:
1. Locate the file “GW2.exe” and right-click it, selecting “Create Shortcut.”
2. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Port Test.”
3. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
4. Edit the “Target” line to include /clientport 80 at the end. Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes.
— Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80
— Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”
5. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes. If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try Step 4 again.
6. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.
Hope this helps!

Hello Ashley,
Thank you for your reply,
I did everything as you asked,
But still when I double click on the shortcut,
The launcher opens, the ‘Downloading 0KB (0KB/sec)’ shows for about 5-10seconds,
Then the black screen appears as in the screenshot and then when I click on the client
the normal windows ‘Not responding’ comes up
Which firewall and antivirus program do you use? If it hangs during networking binding, one or both are faulty for stucking gw2.

Hi Ettanin,
Thanks for your reply.
I use Bitdefender plus as my anti virus,
This is the only anti virus on my computer apart from windows firewall,
I added a exception to the firewall and anti virus for the guildwars2 folder as-well as the process since the first time I started getting this problem.
In the meantime I have also tried disabling my firewall and then Bitdefender(as in the video) and the same keeps happening.
The other thing I was hoping to work was, I asked a friend of mine to copy me his ‘Gw2.exe’ file from his working Guildwars, I replaced the old ‘Gw2.exe’ and deleted the temp file in both the folder and .roaming folder, but nothing
I can’t think of anything else to try, and all the other multiplayer games(UT3,BF4,etc.) works fine
Hoping Tech Support can save me from another day without Guildwars2
But to try and give more info , I uploaded a video where I try and show what I do to open the game and what happens,
Hope we can get a fix,
Regards

heres what I did when I reinstalled on upgrading to windows 8 from windows 7, I made a backup of my gw2.dat file on an external hard drive, once id installed and updated windows 8 I downloaded the gw2 installer client from my account
https://account.guildwars2.com/account/download/gw2?type=win
open it and install it to where you want and let it download a small amount, I then closed the client and copied the original gw2.dat over to where I had installed and overwrote the much smaller gw2.dat I had just downloaded.
then try it, it worked for me, hope fully for you too.

I recommend removing Bitdefender. Yes, it’s a good AV, but it can (and does) interfere with internet functions sometimes. I didn’t have issues using it with GW2, but I haven’t used it in a long time and things may have changed.
One thing it would do is prevent loading certain web pages and there was simply no way around it, or a way to configure Bitdefender to allow the page.
I don’t know if removing Bitdefender will affect your issue, but (in my opinion) Avast is a much better antivirus program anyway.
