I’m curious if its possible to load the entirety of Guild Wars 2 into RAM (assuming one has enough RAM available to set aside for the game while Windows/other applications can still run normally).
Just seems like something neat to do if you have the RAM resources to do it.
A:
You need a X79 system or a system that can support up to 32GB or 64GB of ram like mine can max at 64GB but (too much money)… . RamDisk it.
It could be done. There’s a couple apps out there (I forget the names) that allow for this. Some folks were doing it with SWtoR. Some of these apps already have game ‘profiles’ setup. But seeing as GW2 is still new, you’d probably have to create one. But regardless, it could probably be done.
The most common way to do this is using a RAM disk software. Google will easily set you on the right path to get the information you need. Since the GW2 client is already 16GB and more, you’ll really need a LOT of RAM though.
Would this help? People with fast SSD setups still have load lag. Maybe it would help with stuttering when doing a fast turn, but mostly I don’t see that ( unless I have reflections set to all)
Meh, hard to say. There was a group pf players in SWotR who did it and claimed it made the game run much better. Really wouldn’t know until someone actually tried it.
I doubt it’ll be practical at all to do this, its just something fun to do in my spare time. All the applications I’ve found via searching on google have been either paid versions for drives larger than 4GB or free ones that limit the storage to 4GB.
I kinda wanted to avoid spending money on something like this. Thanks for your help guys.
