I pre-ordered the extension yesterday, and thus given access to the core game, and I was unhappily surprised to see a number of core features locked for 4 days. 4 days of no Trading Post, no Mail to my fellow guildmates and friends and more.
I paid with good money access to the game, and still I feel like I’m considered like a unfamous gold-seller or possible scammer… This is a rude way to welcome new paying players.
That does seem a little harsh and unnecessary to me. I assumed once a f2p account was upgraded it would have full access. As you say, you bought the game now so why the further restrictions? This doesn’t seem right to me, I don’t think this used to be the norm before f2p.

Did you upgrade an existing account? if so, it’s probably a bug, contact support. If it’s a new account, link an authenticator to your account to have them lifted. I believe this is a security feature added by ANet to safe guard new accounts.
This is a brand new account, I wonder what ‘safe guard new account’ would mean ? Protecting other player from me, or me from other players ? I was told this game rocks, so much for the unwelcoming start…

the 4 days is cause of security reasons and this is fine.
its not a rude way its to protect all players and also people outside the game . 4 days are fine e.g to check for owners if the key was paid with his (stolen) credit card informations and so on. 4 days with this limits will kill noone but helps alot to secure ingame economy (dealer/ bought with stolen credit cards accounts as middlemans/gold laundering/gold selling …) and so on.

All new accopunts have this and until you verify your account a lot of measures are in place… It reduced gold spam and hacks considerably

Feature restrictions have been in place since not long after launch. It’s not something new for only Play4Free players. The game just alerts you to it now, where it was somewhat hidden before.
It’s a security measure that only helps you, and everyone else. Your tune might be different if you had been around when there were a plethora of compromised accounts and bots everywhere, not to mention the endless spam.
Gold sellers often buy/upgrade accounts with stolen credit card numbers. Anet needs to protect itself. This is why it is done. It’s not unreasonable when you consider the harm gold sellers, do. Anything that makes gold selling less likely is good for the game.

If it a way to stop RMT, it not a good one. they don’t care about waiting 4 days till they can start. So what is the reason for 4 days, seem to me it a way to get people to spend real money in there store since it a real pain to spend game money the first 4 days.
I just hoping I did not waste my money buying this game. Because this game seem like it will be fun, but I am hoping game management not going to take the fun away…… 4days why 4 days.

The 4 day restrictions are to get around credit card fraud and other types of payment fraud.
If an account is bought using illegal means, charges are usually reversed before this 4 day restriction period expires, and if that happens, the account can be terminated before it can be used for abusive purposes. It’s highly undesirable for the company as well as the legitimate player base that people could fraudulently buy dozens if not hundreds of accounts and abuse the hell out of those before they are closed because of reversed charges.
Leaving newly paid for accounts without any means of interfering with other players and sending wealth to other accounts is the only way to get around it. Sad fact of life.
