I have a fairly modern PC.

An i5-3470 CPU,
an AMD HD 7850 2GB
an a 250 GB SSD on which I have installed everything.

Now my problem is that despite having decent FPS and an SSD, my load times are significantly longer than those of other players. This is most notable when the Commander calls for a Borderlands switch in WvW and you’re stuck on a load-screen for 30 seconds and can see this massive trail of people who have all zoned in faster than you.

And it makes me wonder why. Why does GW2 have such lengthy load-times even on an SSD? No other game I have installed even comes close.

Is there anything I an do to improve things because it doesn’t seem right.

Samsung 830 series 256 GB.

Samsung arguably make the best performing SSDs.

The 830 series isn’t the newest model. But, its still good. It shouldn’t slow down GW2 in any way.

Your graphics card and CPU are also decent.

You could have a fault in any of that hardware or software drivers.

But, its more likely your GW2 performance is affected by your network/router, your ISP or just how far away you live from the game servers.

You don’t say where you live. But, if it isn’t North America, then you have to live with laggier performance.

My Intel 335 and 520 series SSD’s have been rock solid, my load times in game are all under 5 seconds, bar LA during busy times.

try deleting ur local.dat file. it will reset all ur game setitngs so be prepared to set them up again. This file can somtimes become bloated and cause a variety of issues. Its just somthing to try.

I think this helped a bit, but not nearly as much as I was hoping.

Btw. my PC also takes a long time to turn off (despite booting within 20 seconds). Could those issues be somehow related?

Are you using Windows 8? The Fast Boot technology makes the computer Hibernate on shutdown. Leads to longer shutdown times but faster startup times.

I think you have just proved that SSDs have NO bearing on GW2 load times….

Actually SSDs have a massive bearing on loading times.
I have loaded the game in LA off of my 3tb(yes it is defragged) backup drive and both of my intel SSDs. Even though the intel ones are not the fastest in the world they still perform much much better than the standard platter hdd.

Try reducing your culling settings and load into LA and see how that goes.
You can also try what solar said and delete the local.dat file.

Storage device speed has a LOT of bearing on loading speeds. Going from an aging 5400 RPM HDD to a new 7200 RPM drive about halved (or better) my loading times, especially for LA.
