The Dragonfly Effect [Phi]
Hi,
I was fighting Claw of Jormag like 10 minutes ago, and my game sound went from normal to a really loud humming sound that faded in and out (weird reference but the sound was kind of like those drones the Empire used on Hoth in Star Wars). I thought it was just something wrong with the game, so I closed it and relogged to continue fighting the boss. But about 3 minutes after I restarted, the sound game back. This happened once about 3 weeks ago but I figured it was just a small glitch because it happened once and never again, until now where it did it twice in 10 minutes.
If I hear the sound and try and turn guild wars 2 in-game sound down, the humming stays but if I close GW2 completely it goes away. Could this be a sound card issue? I don’t know how to update the drivers for it so that might be the problem but I don’t know much about the hardware end of computers.
Any advice would be appreciated,
Thank you.
I thought it was just my computer, this happened to me too although not as frequently as you have stated, a fix would be nice nevertheless.
I have had the same problem but more frequently. It seems to happen in WvW a lot. The last time it happened to me was exactly as Shinra said, fighting Claw of Jormag. It happened once and my game crashed, I reloaded and it was fine for about 1 min then it crashed again and the worst part…. I missed the dragon chest.
Interesting what sounds cards is everyone running? I have same problem in WvW only myself.I have a SB Recon3d PCIe on a P55 EVGA Mainboard. It usaullly happens in intense pvp battle like Zerg vs Zerg type battles. When i alt tab out of game and check youttube or some other of sound producing software the sound works fine.So i guess its the game.I have had it crash once or twice with the sound all goofy!!
This started a few patches ago and happens constantly. It’s an absolutely terrible bug as the humming is very loud and doesn’t stop until you shut off the game completely. I’m running a HT Claro sound card.
Also, yes, this happens most often in WvW. It also occurs frequently in cursed shore for me. I’ve never had it happen in a dungeon yet.
Glad to see i’m not the only one having this problem Hopefully there might be a fix soon.
I had this before too, and it ’seems ’ the problem occurs when you have the highest quality sound on. Put it to low/medium test it a bit yourself, and the problem is gone.. ive heard it has something to do with your soundcard and that its not compatible to play HD surround sounds.
I just ran into this to day while fighting the claw of jormag, before this it had never happened and this isn’t the 1st time I have faught jormag, so why is it happening now ? :/
This problem has been around for a while, they said they found the probable cause but there’s been no update on where they are at on that.
It has to do with events going on. You get a certain population in one place spamming all sorts of soundbites and the audio drivers flip a crap. I have a Logitech wireless headset series so I’m wondering if it’s logitech problem (since there’s been another topic where users all had logitech series HSs and were having this issue) but the devs certainly aren’t keeping updated on what they’ve found.
It seems they may have fixed one thing , only to cause another. Sound bites don’t overlap for me like they used to but now I get a weird rhythmic “woah” sound that will not stop until I restart the client. It’s not my speakers or headphones and adjusting the audio quality and/or volume doesn’t effect the sound.
I am having the same issue. A low buzzing sound that oddly changes tone when you have graphics changes moving the camera around close and far. But ya it is annoying as hell. If I tab out of the game ahh silence but hitting mute on my computer does not oddly stop the buzzing sound. I thought it was my speakers but by the other responses I think it is a problem with the game.
I’ve had this happen 3 or 5 times.
This has been happening to me alot lately. Plus the game crashes after the humming sound. So far it seems to happen when there’s a alot going on. Like a large WvWvW battle or a boss fight.
having the same issue here, logitech G930 headset does it, always in big events like dragons or WvW, makes me want to just mute game sounds and play music or something, maybe that way the game wont crash at least
The low level background buzzing is constant and like the others if I close the game it goes away completely. I notice that if you open your would map the tone lowers a ton and almost disappears. I notice that of you spin around the tone varies with the graphics changes. Perhaps there is some relation with the graphics?
Running 64 Bit Win 7 Pro, 12GB Tripple Channel DDR3 663 Mhz, Evga 132-BL-E758 (Socket 423), DELL U2410 (1920x1200
59Hz), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680, Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz.
Some reply would be great from the staff.
Happens to me all the time in WvW sieges.
Onboard audio; think it’s Realtek.
I’ve had this bug for a while now and only fix i know of is go to your volume controls and mute the game from there. You can’t hear the game anymore but you also can’t hear the roar/hum/ whatever you wanna call it. I usually play my own music anyway so not a huge issue for me. Relogging will stop it completely though if you absolutely need to hear the game. Muting the game volume in-game or turning it down won’t do anything, it has to be in your system volume for the game itself (click the speaker icon in your taskbar, click mixer, adjust the GW2 volume)
I put in a support ticket on this issue and Anet confirmed it is a known issue. I still have not seen a fix for this issue. It seems to be an understanding that it is produced from the Realtek onboard audio. I would like to see this moved up the todo list for the devs.
I just started having this exact same issue… Thought it was just me.
Only thing that seems to fix it is restarting the client. my other programs work fine with my audio system, and all drivers are current, this is just an issue with GW2.
I get this too. Had it since launch, Asus Xonar DX sound card. Please fix it!
I got this at the Maw while fighting the mobs before the boss, multiple times in the last week. Also, happened at Temple of Melandru while doing the boss fight.
I have had something like this, about 30 seconds after I log into one of my characters, a loud single sound sort of buzzes/hums and then the whole computer reboots, am I the only one who’s computer crashes as a result?
Anyway, this has made me unable to play and I might not play much because of things like this
I had this happen again, I thought it was fixed. Anyway; it appears that my Sound Blaster Xtrem Gamer got over-loaded while trying to play all of the sounds while fighting the Claw of Jormag. First some sounds starting cutting out (like the sound of my bow firing) then entire swaths of sounds cut out, then all the sound cut out followed a second later by the loud hum.
Same here, frequently and mainly at WvW, very annoying…
SoundBlaster Recon3D
(also with Realtek Onboardsound)
Sadly anet never seems to have stopped mentioning anything about this issue, considering how bad it is, it’s kinda disappointing. Its plagued many since the game came out including me. I cannot do any large engagement now without the sound cutting out and the game crashing 30s later.
I think we just need to keep complaining about it again. What was it gramps said? Oh, “The squeeky wheel gets the grease.” We are the sweek.
I cannot do Jormag without crashing shortly following this noise
