I started playing Guild wars 2 three days ago and everything was fine, but today i logged in and saw that my FPS dropped from 60-90 to 27-33 and its hard for me to move the mouse because of the bad FPS, Im running everything on low and i don’t mind it but what i do mind is that everything was alright yesterday but now i have huge FPS problems and i cannot fix it.

Go to the start menu/screen and type ‘dxdiag’ (without the quotes). Hit enter, and if it asks if it can check something just hit yes. On the first tab (“System”), say what it says for Operating System (3rd one down), Processor (4th from the bottom) (type and number, ie “Intel Core i3-3220 CPU”), the amount of memory (which is right below where it says processor).

Go to the second tab (“Display”) and say what is says after Name in the Device box at the top left.

Also what i saw just now in the game is that when im not moving my FPS is about 60-80 normal good FPS but when i move my mouse to turn or to look at the map it drops to 20-30. so i basicly cant move or walk i have too much FPS drops.

Ah, no. You can move fine at 20-30 because that’s my normal state so I call BS.

Put up a screenshot with your graphic settings so all can see.

Lag is different than frame rate. You can have great frame rate and still have lag.

Visual lag is perceptual, same with audio. Just as an example, if someone has duller hearing, they could say that my DT990’s or HD600 running on an Schiit Asgard2 amp sound the same as a pair of Logitech headset they bought from Walmart…. It’s not THEIR fault, it’s simply what THEY hear and perceive, regardless if I may be able to pick out certain things in the different ranges of sound, their ears simply cannot pick it up.

Of course, lag comes in many different forms, but, it all contributes to what one person will perceive. That being said, I have to ask…. Where EXACTLY in the game are you getting 20-30 fps?

Are you lagging in PvE areas? Dungeons? PVP? WvW? When you say lag, do you simply mean your frames are dropping to 20-30 and you consider that too low? Or when you move rotate your camera, it feels as though the game has to catch up to where you move to, similar to a slideshow?

Realistically you should be able to run it fine on low settings with your setup at stock settings.

No im sorry i will not post a screenshot of my graphic settings please read what i said before i tried it all its all on low or very low shadows are on none now for the other guy “Sobe” when im not moving i have normal good FPS like i said but when i rotate my camera the FPS drops to 20 from 70! the character is like moving in slow motion and stops when i stop rotating the camera as u said “Or when you move rotate your camera, it feels as though the game has to catch up to where you move to, similar to a slideshow?” its something like that and no its not lag in the ways u understand it its FPS lag i know how lags work please try to understand my problem here i think i explained it here more than enough.

Rather than fighting with everyone you’d probably have an easier time reaching a solution by just posting a screenshot of your graphics settings and fps.

And now as you can see in this picture i have 70 FPS when im not doing anything (not rotating the camera) basicly not moving at all brings me to 70 FPS and when im rotating the camera it drops to 26.

when you go out of the game and come back, all of the things previously drawn are no longer drawn. So rotating the camera initially redraws it and that’s where you have frame drops. Do it once, there’s a drop in FPS. Do it twice, there might not be a drop.

60-70 fps on low settings is definitely playable and enjoyable, but what happens to make it drop to unplayable variety of 20 fps?

When you start the game up, things behind you aren’t loaded into memory yet and need to be fetched from the hard drive for the 1st time. Spin in place a couple of times and then stop, pointing in the same direction. What’s your frame rate now? As you move the game will have to keep loading new areas into memory so your frame rate will dip as you move.

But again it shouldn’t be a problem moving about.

Okay. A graphics card has a set amount of memory built onto it, like system RAM. It can range from 512 MB with today’s cards to 6 GB like the GTX Titan. Every videogame loads details into the graphics card because it is fast.

Guild Wars 2 is no exception. As you move, new details are loaded into the graphics card’s RAM and then displayed. The process of it loading up is what makes your frame rates dip. And the first time you spin around in the game after start up or Alt Tabbing back into the game, it needs to do this process again. This process is always happening as you move, but the one time you spin around it happens the most. Basically it’s the more that happens such as objects being loaded up onto your screen, the more your fps can drop.

Could try reinstalling the game or something or deleting the .tmp file in the install directory. Unless you have a download cap like me don’t re-dl it. I’m not sure what your fps drops could be caused by other than what Behellagh and I have said. He might know more.

Actually another thing you could try checking is if your CPU is being throttled down. I think you can check this with CPU-Z which will show the CPU clock at the current moment and any changes.

thats the only thing i can do and think of at the moment.

I mean that the cpu could be the cause of these fps drops if the processor is not running at the desired speed of 2.4 GHz. It could be running at 800 MHz for all we know.

on the right side of the page there’s some download ones. You can choose the one that requires an install or you can use the one below that that just needs to be unpacked and can be run anywhere.

And GPU-Z can do something similar with your video card.

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/GPU-Z/

No install, just run it.

Also the utility CoreTemp can show your current clock speed and CPU temps in case it’s a thermal issue that’s affecting your CPU.

On CPU-Z, on the lower left hand corner of the front tab which is the first to show by default, you’ll find Clocks (Core #0) which represents the status of the first core on your quad core processor. If it reads 2.4 GHz as is your Q6600’s default frequency, it should be fine. If it reads a lower frequency during Guild Wars 2, there’s an issue somewhere.

I already found the cause of my FPS problem and i cant say i fixed it by myself it was more like an accident well you see my computer is old so today it crashed (blue screen)
2 times in a row after those crashes i thought well maybe the game will work now without problems and as weird as it sounds it did work and im playing at this moment with no problems at all clean smooth 70 FPS so now the cause of the problem is my computer start up, when im turning my computer on it takes time for it to “wake up”
but anyway i found the cause of the problem and im going to clean my computer in the end of this week from dust and stuff so it will start up faster or something like that. so yea my problem is solved i kinda understand the cause of it and i know what i need to do in order to make it stay as it is now hopefully. (also im saving money for a new computer). so thank you guys for your time. and ill contact this forum if ill have more problems in the future.

If you wanted to you could probably find a used GTX 470 somewhere and put that in the computer for now and turn up the visuals and get a better experience from GW2 if you wanted to. Glad to know that the issue is fixed!

A game is not always about graphics im having a great experience plaiyng GW2 with my correct settings and i want to buy a new computer for many reasons one of them is that i dont think that in the future i will be able to manage fixing it so many times for it to solve my correct problems which are fine now and also its really old not that i care but its starting to crash more often and the parts are really old and some things just doesnt work as they used to, but thank you for your suggestion. also i just want to have fun with the game i dont mind the poor settings or graphic im focused on making this solution for my FPS problems permanent so as long as its smooth i dont mind playing on low.
