Low FPS Since 4/30 Update
Hi. I’m not sure if we’ll be able to help you here as you are the first Mac user to report low fps after the patch (it has been happening more on the of side of the forums), but we can try. If we can’t solve your problem here, I highly recommend you check the submit a ticket sticky and then do so. Then come back here and report your fix so that it may help others in the future.
On the pc, they keep recommending “update the drivers,” but us maccies already have those if we keep up with out system updates. So, double check that first.
Question: have you been monitoring your system temps? Can you tell me what they are running at while playing gw2 and when idle, also try running another game or something less taxing on a system and what are the temps then? Give a couple mins to get to a standing temp before noting it.
Question 2: what graphics settings are you running gw2 at? (low across the board, medium, some high, all high) Do you have best texture filtering enabled or vertical sync? Both can cause lower fps. I imagine on your system, you can’t run very high graphics settings due to gpu limitations and being on the lower end of supported systems, but I want to ask and be sure.
Check those 2 things and let me know, I’ll be hanging around for a bit and will check back for you.
Hey there! Thank you so much for the quick response
Question 1: Yeah, I should have mentioned that. Something I’ve noticed since 4/30 is my system running hotter & the game taking much more CPU space (up to 160%), and only 10-30 percent of my system being idle. Granted both might be me noticing a reality that was already there previously, I don’t know. My system is running (according to SMC Fan Control) about 90 degrees C.
Question 2: Everything is set to low =)
Thank you again!
Also, my resting temp is about 55 degrees C!
Your temps for the CPU sound about normal for a MBP. Also check the gpu temps though. Make sure vertical sync is disabled for more fps (but possible screen tearing).
If that seems well (gpu lower than cpu temps is normal for gw2), you may want to try the “delete your gw2 folder contents” option, but it may or may not work. I personally haven’t had this issue, but it’s possible. As long as your system is up to date, that’s about all we can try on our end without having support from the Anet staff. I’ll post the instructions for you to try, but if it’s just not happening, check the submit a ticket sticky and have a go at that. But please, let me know if you tried the folder option and if it helped or not. Then please follow up after the ticket with any solutions they may have to help others who may experience this. It’s possible some changes were made to the client optimisation that is causing some clients to bug out like this and reporting is the only way to find a solid fix.
1. Find the folder (navigate to it, don’t search)
Mine is located under the HIDDEN Library folder (a hidden folder shows in grey text when it is visible in finder)
/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2
2. Make a backup of said folder by copying and pasting it somewhere (desktop)
3. Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few)
4. then re-run the client.
If you can’t see/find this folder, follow these instructions:
http://m.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models
Then proceed with the instructions above. Test game again.
Please do let me know how you made out, if you needed a ticket still, and the outcome of that. Good luck and sorry I can’t be of more assistance.
[ADDED] I find a cooling pad with fans helps keep my temps from going above 90 (definitely keeps them from staying there).

Hey!
Update—turns out my fan(s) are broken. Seems like the computer is freezing the game in order to keep my computer from shutting down. So this is hardware rather than software. Thank you again for your help!
Oh boy! Sorry to hear it’s actually a major issue. How did you find that?
Not sure if it is a PC issue. There have always been dc’s so no change there, but since the last update (End of April) the client freezes as and when it chooses to, about 1 every hour.
I have a set up where there is a constant cold air flow from a built on 12" fan, on the side of the box, so overheating is not an issue
