Guild Wars 2

I haven’t played GW2 in about ~6 months or so. The last time I logged in was about 2 months ago and everything seemed fine. Today I decided to log in to check out the new content, but it’s like my computer can’t handle it anymore. Before I used to get a steady 40-60 FPS everywhere… I now get 10-30 FPS. It absolutely plays like crap and I have no idea why. Zones with literally no one around will play at 15 FPS when before it would easily cap at 60. Is there something new that they added or what? Even changing the settings to the lowest doesn’t help at all. It also seems it’s not using my second GPU (won’t go any higher than 35% load or so). Please help!

Radeon 6990 4gb (currently overclocked – might be why?)
i7 970 @ 3.20 ghz
8gb RAM

They just removed culling, so you may need to turn the character limit and quality down.

During a previous update, in-game settings were reset, verify your graphics settings. However, you may need to just delete the local.dat file (my documents/guild wars 2), this will reset your settings again, but may allow better performance.

Update vid card drivers (best to uninstall then re-install).

Temporarily disable any overclocking and test.

What 2nd GPU?

I have all settings at the lowest possible and I’m still getting 10-15 FPS. It’s awful.

And I have a dual GPU. The second one doesn’t seem to be doing very much when I play GW2.

I don’t know if my hardware is fried or what…

You may want to consider trying the few options I listed above and also test this with your 2nd GPU disabled.

Take a break from the game, come back in a decade when hardware can compensate for bad engines…

It’s not a GPU issue don’t worry. Check your CPU usage, I’m sure you’ll be able to figure it out from there (the issue that is). Something happened in the last couple patches that destroyed CPU optimization for a lot of people. I originally thought it was AMD only but I’ve been reading more and more posts like this and it’s people with all CPU’s that just aren’t being utilized by the game. It creates a HUGE bottleneck which is why changing the video settings has no effect at all.
