Low Fps With GTX980
First, make sure the gpu is in first pcie and it’s running at x16.
Then you can try a clean uninstall with software like Display Driver Uninstaller and then put the latest, or reinstall the game.

I don’t understang what’s happening.
I’m getting huge fps drops with my new GTX 980. It jumps from 60-70 fps to 20-25 fps in groups of about 20-25 people. In bigger groups, like when I was doing Tequatl the other day, I was at 15fps… which is just unplayable.I’ve tried different solutions, like unparking my CPUs and running in compatibility mode.. no difference.
Here’s my config:
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 930 @ 2.80GHz
Motherboard: Dell Studio XPS 9100
GPU: GeForce GTX 980
RAM: 12 GB
OS: Windows 8.1 64bit
Disk Space: 1.5TB ( 2 × 750 GB)Any suggestions ?
Thats your CPU bottlenecking you. Your 980 is too fast for your first gen i7.
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD
The i7-930 isn’t a spring chicken anymore. Relatively speaking it’s a tad slow and as this game is considerably more CPU dependent than GPU, an uber GPU like the GTX 980 doesn’t speed it up as much as games that are very GPU dependent.
RIP City of Heroes
That’s what I thought… Any recommandations for a new CPU? And will I have to change the motherboard as well?

if you wanna OC then get a Z97 and a i7 4790K or i5 4690K.
If you dont want to OC then get a H97 and i7 4790 or i5 4690

Thanks a lot !
It’s also likely that due to age of your processor, your motherboard will probably only support PCI-e 2.0 there by reducing the max bandwidth your PCI-e 3.0 card can send.

But that’s not really much of a problem with this game.

Change your CPU will not change your DPS drops….
You will gain some FPS but in large events/WVW, you will always stay at 15-20 FPS.
I made an upgrade from GTX580 in SLI to R9 290X in Crossfire I didn’t see FPS difference (I have a i7 2600K at 4.8ghz) and my cards are PCIe 2.0 x8.
So…start to cry

Not it is even a 295×2 is effected by 16x 2.0

Thats because your GTX580’s provided more power then GW2 ever needed. So upgrading to 290x’s wouldn’t have given you an increase until you upgraded the CPU enough were the GTX580’s were your bottle neck.
