Hi, I’ve recently upgraded my CPU cooler from a CM Vortex Plus to an EVO 212, and for some reason, I’m getting MUCH lower framerates as compared to before (in GW2 ONLY. Witcher 3 still runs at 60FPS). I’m, pretty sure that I installed the cooler properly, since I’m getting cooler temps, but I’m not sure what’s causing the low framerate. I used to get anywhere from 30-60fps in-game, and now I’m getting 15-30fps… What gives?

I’ve scheduled an upgrade some time in April 2016; tired of my FX8350 bottlenecking my GPU.

Update: Switching to the new 64bit client boosted my FPS from an average opf 15 to an average of 35. It’s a big jump up, but it’s still sub par as far as quality is concerned.

Post a picture like this for better diagnostic … GW2 in the background,
GPU-z and CPU-z in the forground. Important is your GPU runs @x16 and
your CPU runs at max speed.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

And?

If you’ve only gone from ~15 to ~35fps still on low settings, even with that CPU, there’s a problem somewhere.

Lots of times a GPU can unseat/lose firm contact when you move your PC around. I imagine you took the GPU out to mount that heatsink, or at least had the oriented in an odd manner(laying on its side).

I’d definitely take that screenshot.

Did you move your graphic card to a different slot to make room for the new cooling system, if so that’s your issue the graphics card has to be in the slot closest to the CPU.

Oddly enough, the x16 slot my card has been sitting on for 2 years read as x4 about 15mins ago (in GPUZ, but the slot is labelled as x16 on the board), so I re-seated it on the second x16. The problem was gone after I ran GW2 64bit in win 7 compatibility mode and turned off Riva, but I’m getting much higher frame rates now as well (I average 50 now, 40 last night after changes).

Awesome work!
Also, if you choose to not max settings like ‘Field of View’ and others you will generate some more fps without losing much in the aspects of visualizations.
I’ve found in certain maps that maxing Field of View with other settings on High or max can really be brutal.

I may have spoken too soon…I just got down to the teens again… :/

I’m at my wit’s end. I might just move my upgrade schedule up to some time this year or early January if this persists…I’ll have to skip upgrading my GPU though…
