Q:

This is my first time posting on the forums, and forgive me for being repetitive. I’ve looked on google on this topic before to find threads that have been untouched for 4, 6, or 9 months and I’m just wondering if a fix is in the works, or is available that I may have missed.

I haven’t been able to really play Guild Wars 2 since updating my OS to Yosemite. The OS itself has been causing nothing but problems machine-wide, but on an app-to-app basis, I’ve been able to maintain the functionality of the programs I use the most.

Recently, tried some of the known Mac troubleshooting methods (Disk repair, app repair, etc.) and it was very optimistically working (With decreased loading times, even!) until I exited the game and booted it up again later to find it crashing again.

Along with the usual cases, this happens most frequently when I try and enter the Trading Post. The TP remains ‘loading’ and then when I try and exit, the game hangs. I’ve also had it hang randomly as well, even while running on the game’s lowest settings.

Again, forgive the possible taboo of posting about an outdated subject, but I wanted to make sure I could get information that was as up-to-date as possible.

My Mac Stats
-OSX Yosemite; version 10.10.1
-Macbook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)
-Processor; 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
-Memory; 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
-Graphics; Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB

Yeah, I’ve not played since October or so because of all the problems with the Mac “Beta”. When there are a large number of players around, the game crashes to the desktop and sometimes freezes my machine. I’ve been through all the troubleshooting tips with support to no avail. With the new expansion coming out, I thought there might be a shade of a chance of an updated client for us, but I don’t see anything new in the forums.

As far as I can tell, they have completely given up on the Mac Beta. It’s impossible to find any up-to-date information about its interaction with Yosemete… Anet no longer responds to any issues about our crashes… and they’ve combined the Mac & PC Technical Support sections to hide the fact that have given up on their Mac users. It’s beyond disappointing.

I held off updating my OS, expecting things to be ironed out… but there’s been nothing but silence for months. Not that Yosemete itself is the issue, there are huge problems no matter which Mac OS you run. For me crashes have become completely random and without reason. And I have yet to figure out how we’re supposed to do an in-game report of a crash to desktop, or a crash that forces your entire computer to reboot.

I agree with you Keaira. It had been a long time sense I’d been back to the forums. I was completely surprised to see when they had ‘merged’ the mac and pc forums together. I guess they figure a cider port will cut it as a ‘beta’. It was saddening too see. Now with all the hype with Heart of Thorns I’m wondering how playable the expansion will be on a mac. I tried to look up system requirements but there doesn’t seem to be any released yet.

I agree. I’m not even considering buying the upcoming expansion until it is verified that there will be Mac support for it and that it works. I’ll let other people test it before me. It was asked in the HoT forum if Mac will be supported and the answer was they didn’t know. There is supposedly a Mac team working at Anet. If that is true they seem to be very silent and working in the background as I never see them post in Mac support threads.

I’m having the same problem as you, except my complete crashes have become WAY more prevalent within the last week or so.
Before, the game would crash every now and then randomly, but it wasn’t a huge issue. Maybe once or twice a day.
Got my new iMac 5K, and the game crashes every 20 minutes now.
No error message or anything, just closes and goes back to desktop.

Tried the troubleshooting steps as well, made no difference.

This is unfortunate to hear. I still sing this games praises (it’s really fun when it’s working!) and HoT has me all hyped up again.

I’d like to assume that, since HoT has been in development for some time, perhaps their resources were devoted to it and couldn’t spare much time for this end. Maybe since the announcement, and once things calm down from the hype talk and PAX we’ll start to hear more in the way of support.

It would make sense since they have to prepare their systems to accommodate the expansion.

I just wish we’d hear from them!

I have a mac book with retina and an iMac. It crashes on both. I’ve even installed it on windows 7 via boot camp and it still crashes. I’ve tried all trouble shooting process with no luck. I understand this is an older post but I’m having this same issue… did any of you managed to get it resolved? and if so how?
