Hello Tyrians,
With the patch out the door, you now have the option of downloading parts of the game while playing. Victoria posted a blog post about it two weeks ago with instructions for how to enable it if you are playing on a PC. If you are playing on a Mac, this is how you enable it:
- Open a Finder window with any folder.
- In the Go meny, select Go to Folder…, or press Cmd+Shift+G.
- Enter ~/Library/Application Support/Guild Wars 2 and press enter. Note: This step requires you have launched the game at least once. Going to the launcher should be enough.
- In this folder, there should be a file named config. Open this file using a text editor (such as TextEdit).
- At the bottom of this file, add these two lines (without the line numbers):
- [AppDefaults\\GW2.exe\\transgaming]
- "CmdLineAdd" = "-streamingclient"
- Save and close the file.
Important: Please ensure that the quotes in those two lines are straight quotes ("), not curly quotes (“).
That’s it! Next time you launch the game you should be able to enter the game without having to fully patch first. If you would like to disable it again, you can follow these same steps and just remove those two lines again.
Please be aware that – while we expect it to be working properly – we have noticed some performance drops with streaming on Mac (only while downloading). In particular, patching from an older build may lower your frame rate temporarily. It’s something we hope to solve before setting streaming to be default.
