I have a 13" macbook pro running 10.8.1 with the intel video card and I run in windowed mode and it is working pretty well for the hour or so I was able to log in. 14 FPS and some lag but this isn’t exactly an alienware laptop so I am just happy I don’t have to reboot into Windows to play. Good Job getting the Mac Client up and running. I hope to see continued improvement in squeezing the most out of the client as possible and making it as bug free as it can be.

But… If anyone is running a Dual Core i7 macbook pro wth
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
Software OS X 10.8.1 (12B19)

and has an idea how to get frame rates above 15 id love to hear your optimization tips

I have the same specs, and get around 20-25 fps on low settings.
Try resetting the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
And try this (I tried, and it works, but I am not sure about the performance boost): https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Config-File-Edits-for-Improved-Performance

I will keep on trying to improve performance soon, just bought this game but hope I can get it to run better.

Definitely reset the SMC as Wrath already suggested.

As for the tweaks, Anet already turned on the MTD3D= setting which was affecting many people with a recent patch. And, the other tweaks in the above mentioned thread are subjective depending on each person’s build. I personally haven’t seen a difference in performance after changing any of the values in the Config file besides the MTD3D=. On the other hand, I was getting pretty decent fps (25-30) on my 13" MBP before the patch as well.

Regardless, OP, if you plan to try some of the tweaks, don’t forget to make a back up of your Config file before you start playing with it.

The Intel HD Graphics family is just not enough to run this game on a Mac. Sure, it meets the Windows min specs, but running this game through an emulation layer puts even more strain on the system. Dedicated GPUs are the way to go.
