MBP Retina 15 inch... Running Hot
Has anyone else noticed that this port, on the retina display MBP’s runs hot, like hot to the touch. I know you can OC the graphics card, but it appears you can only do this on windows through boot camp and not natively in OS X. Anyone have any suggestions on how to regulate the temp using this client?
This is what you get with Transgaming’s Cider wrapper. Happened with City of Heroes as well. The Cider client will ramp your fans up to top speed regardless of temperature and your temperature will be markedly higher than it will be using Boot Camp.

With that impact, wonder what the duration of gameplay can be before system issues like memory timing etc start to show up?? I guess what would be best would be to have a OpenGL port of this game instead of the Cider wrapper…. Well this is progress none the less I guess.
Limit framerate to 30 and reduce effects to keep it down. Btw it’s quite normal that the aluminium body becomes extremely hot, it’s the way MBP dissipates heat.
Yeah mine gets hotter than a pistol. Has ever since my Powerbook G4 running wow. The metal body of the computer acts as a heatsink. The best thing I ever did was get one of those laptop cooling dock fan stands to put my laptop on while gaming. It made a huge difference. OF course now I just hook it up to a monitor and external kb/mouse so i don’t burn my hands but i wouldn’t worry about it being too hot unless you are touching it and burning yourself. Oh and if you are a male I would keep the heat off your lap if possible since it can adversely affect the number of swimmers you have..
Is this a problem with all MacBook’s or just the retina one?
I’m wondering about purchasing a MacBook, but if it gets too hot to use I don’t really see the point in buying one.
Any unibody aluminium macbook would be hot, as well as any laptop (just that plastic doesn’t become so hot for obvious reasons)… just don’t use a laptop if you care about heat.
Are you guys being serious?
Of course it runs hot. It’s doing a lot of processing.

Are you being serious? Any laptop with some self-respect got a decent cooling solution to take care of heating issues.
Of course the processor is getting hot, but the body of the laptop is a totally different case. If the body is getting hot, the cooling solution is either too weak or the laptop was never meant to utilize the power of the hardware.

Have you looked at the fans inside of a Macbook Pro? They’re large enough and move enough air to be compared to cooling an entire tower case with two 12 inch fans. The cooling isn’t inadequate for the system. For your legs, though, that’s a different story. Metal gets hot when near heat. News at 11.

/Facepalm…
Have you looked at the thermal dynamics of the MacBook Pros?
You do realise that the casing itself is actually utilised to cool the machine down. It acts like a heatsink.
I don’t want to be THAT guy to state this but I’m pretty sure Apple know what they’re doing with regards to cooling when designing these machines. I’ve even OCed my GPU from 775 to 950MHz Core and 2000 to 2600MHz memory with no issues under windows.

exactly to this point. its how the MacBooks are designed the body itself acts as a heat sink to keep everything down cool and mind you these processors and graphics chips have a max threshold that once crossed your mac will shut down to protect itself so i wouldn’t worry.
I might be misunderstanding the term “hot to the touch”. I was thinking you’d burn your hand by touching it.
If this is not the case, I will quit right now.
ahah, no you won’t burn your hands
its a mac, they become hot but dont worry, its still in its thermal capacity.
