Maize Balm vs Shield/Torch kill farm
You could always guest to another server, and kill ambients where others aren’t already playing. You could kill ambients in other places where they respawn quite quickly. You could report them, if they are harassing/threatening you. /shrug
It’s up to you, of course. Good luck.
Take the Maize Balm out of the equation.
What would you do if you went there to farm kills and found there was already a guardian there farming kills in that spot?
Well the problem lies with the following. Maize farm is all about turning the critters in creatures where the creatures can be tagged with more then one person (works only with low low low level characters) for the loot. While if you purely go for kills with shield/torch the critters (and even the mobs from the maize balm) will die instantly by one person.
So the question remains:
A. Is the person that is there first the person that can claim this spot for him/her to farm like they want (do it in groups, rotate who stays behind and henceforth claim this spot for all eternity), OR
B. is the kill for the first person that can strike it (since the world is for all to play and enjoy and none can claim a spot or creature spawn point).
@Simplesimon: Already have done a duo shield/torch farm with another player. Since the respawn is fast and the cooldown is long, there is no problem for 2 or 3 players to farm simultain with shield/torch Guard
So do the same with the maize farmers. Talk with them and take turns they get one group and candy them. You get the next group and blast it with the shield.
You could also go to the Shadow Behemoth area, it has a lot of ambient creatures. Or north west of Golem MK2 or some personal story missions.
Talking to maze farmers is not an option.. they just go like “Go away”. “This is our farm”. “Only lvl 1-3 engi”. So there is no talking with them.
And I have try’d doing the same at the shadow behemoth spawn. But for shield that is a no go (3 kills per 1 or 2 min) and torch 5 per 1 or 2 min while this place gives many kills per min (every cooldown 3 kills). This spot is less time consuming for me. So again the question: What is against the rules of Anet. Taking this spot for a small group to farm for ToT bags or be the first to get the kills? The only options that I hear are: Isn’t there another area for you to go do the achievements. And I want to know how it works with only this spot.
Nope. No one can claim any area as an area for just one type of play.
The Maize Balm farmers and the kill achieve farmers have to share.
People who kill everything just to spite the Maize Balm farmers are in the wrong (this is hard to prove unless their vocal on top of it). The Maize Balm farmers who get toxic over kill achieve farmers killing creatures are in the wrong.
The only power players have over each other is to give or withhold cooperation. If a player is trying to farm something then that player should probably use some effective persuasion skills or keep moving away from other players.
There’s daily quests to kill ambients. On those days it’s difficult to find a good ambient killing spot. In fact, there’s achievements to kill 1000 of pretty much every kind of mob. When I get within 100 or so kills of an achievement I’ll find a nice camp and finish off the achievements. That doesn’t give me the right to bully other players out of the area without getting in trouble with ArenaNet.
Start a new toon if you can and do the vigil storyline until you get to the point where you have to go in the sewers of Lion’s Arch. There are rats that spawn infinitely and run toward you. You can get your achievement there. Hope that helps!
No one can claim a spot in open instances legitimately. And you won’t be banned for playing the game the way you want in a public instance. If you want to be polite to them, try to get into another instance of the same map.
But they don’t have claim to an open area. Don’t be intimidated! If you want to level up your torch/shield achievement just do it the way you want to.
EDIT: And if they keep harassing you report them for harassing you and then block them so you don’t have to hear their complaints.
