Major install problem - start FROM SCRATCH?!

I bought and began installing GW2 yesterday evening and have spent the last 15 hours or so letting it download patches and whatnot.

I’m letting it update and get down to less than 10% remaining when it has a problem and has to be force-quit from task manager (“program has stopped responding” etc.).

I’m installing it to an externall HDD, and I think it got nudged or something mid-download. When I went to launch the .exe again so it could RESUME downloading, it opens up the “repairing data archive” window, which also soon crashes. I KNOW it wasn’t my HDD this time because I checked the connection and was watching the thing like a hawk. It gets about halfway done and it TOO decides to freeze up. So I have to force kill that as well. Now, third time I try to update, the repair window doesn’t even appear, and the launcher is now updating FROM SCRATCH. I’m literally so angry right now about this that my vision blurred. I have, in my installation folder, the .dat file in a massive size, so I KNOW thakitten ’s there, but the launcher won’t recognize it. No number of exits and restarts of the launcher will reopen the “repair data archive” window or pick up from my major progress point. The -repair trick doesn’t work either; it just starts from this new download point fresh.

What I want to know is if there is anything I can do to make it pick up from the point where it was almost done. I’m absolutely livid thakitten won’t recognize the .dat file I have (which I’ve attached to this post, so you can see thakitten IS there).

I’m not really sure there is too much for you to do besides redownload the game, this time making sure you don’t nudge anything that might corrupt the game file. However, I can give you some advise when the game is done downloading, and that is to copy that .dat file somewhere else. If your game ever becomes corrupted again and wants you to re-download it, you can say ‘hell naw’ and copy your backup .dat over to the game’s directory. Thus, only having to update back to the current game’s state rather than starting from scratch.
