Many hacked accounts! Be Careful!
Wonderful.
If it happens to me, I’m going to have a huge pain in the kitten trying to get my account recovered without my original CD key.

The CD-key is not strictly needed to prove Account ownership. Many different pieces of information are used to determine the actual Account owner when attempting to regain control of an account.
Yugh, CD-key. I had to go through that to uncouple my authentication, since Yahoo was blocking the emails without even telling me.
G’bye Yahoo! :P
Still, if they got in, does that mean they also got your email as well? :\ Scary.

It sounds like Dave DID NOT have authenticator but the hackers enabled it after they got his account, making it much more difficult for him to recover.
Edit: whoops, got post-happy. Meant to add: if you don’t have authenticator enabled already, you should enable it now. It’s terrifying to me that people play without it.

Thats great for people that CAN enable it. I have no way to do so. No cell phone.
Dave my account was the same as yours got stripped of everything and the moblie thingy was added!

“Quit Laughing I need the Vista”
This exact thing happened to me 2 days ago, account hacked, authenticator added and the account stripped, they also add support email address to your spam lists. Be careful people.
Im guessing someone found a vulnerability in anets servers when they implemented the megaserver. Its the only thing I can think of.
also watch your email account it could be there

“Quit Laughing I need the Vista”
Just noticed, they used all my laurels as well. This just keeps getting better and better. Thanks anet for checking out your patches/updates before you implement them. We all enjoy our accounts being compromised because of it.
They are trying to get my account again. I just received a request to reset my password.
ANET you need tomake an official statement on this and close the game off until your security is sorted.. sooo many players now.. I bet all our guild bank is gone, all alts cleared and god knows what else the hackers have gained access to. like personal info, credit card details.. this is a mess!!!!!!!
My account is now useless to log into as they have set up an authenticator.. when I use the myaccount I can still change passwords but I cant login into game cos I cant authenticate the mobile app numbers… so I cant remove the kitten thing.
All I can do is keep my forum account open and keep disconnecting them at the security tab but minutes later they lock me back out

they hack me to :S
So I’m not the only victim of this? I do hope Anet does something about this and fixes the problem. Sent a ticket for account compromisation (and it confirmed they got it, via e-mail), now I wait for them to reply and rollback my account, hopefully the day before Easter Sunday (Before mines was hacked). Guess I was lucky to have set up a mobile authentication before said hacker decided to do so…
Good luck to all. They tried AGAIN to get mine back. IDK why, they took EVERYTHING. You guys need to file a ticket for them to remove the authenticator. Takes 30min to an hour. Anet security is a kitten joke…..sooo mad right now.
Just read this as well
“Mail authentication is made useless by the mobile authenticator : if a hacker gets one person’s account name and password and then logs into the guild wars 2 website, he can enable Mobile Authentication which will bypass the mail authentication.”

You know their going to close this thread as well.. damage limitation at its finest, while players accounts are left in the lap of the gods along with who knows what other info.

Yes, we will close this thread, not for “damage limitation” purposes, but because it contains a whole lot of false speculation about stolen accounts. These are accounts that are stolen individually, through an issue with the account itself. Perhaps the player used the same password for his game account that he used on a site that was subsequently hacked. Perhaps the player experienced a compromise of her e-mail account. There are a dozen ways that an account can be stolen, but the speculation that this is related to game servers, the mega-servers, or the phases of the moon is not just irresponsible, it sets a tone in the community that leads from speculation to “fact.”
I asked about this very situation, and our security lead told me this (paraphrased): ArenaNet is nailing botters and cheaters in record numbers. Because we’re closing those accounts, the RMT companies and the would-be hackers are casting a wider net to acquire other accounts to use to cheat, or to use to advertise gold sales.
We’re very sorry when someone gets hacked, and as those of you familiar with the systems know, we do our utmost to help lock down the account and, when the account is eligible, to restore the account to its pre-compromise condition. Please do not engage in wild “It must be…” speculation about such a delicate issue — it’s unfair to the compromise victims and it’s unfair to us!
And to ensure you know I’m not closing the door on this with a simple lock of the thread, I have routed an e-mail to various team members to ensure we’re viewing this broadly and to confirm that all I have said remains as true as it was when I was first told it.
