Massive drop in FPS since Windows 8
Hi Jereguy – Are you using s 32-bit or a 64-bit operating system? Additionally, did you re-install all of your motherboard drivers as well as DirectX?
I’m using Windows 8 Pro 64 bit, and yes every motherboard driver has been updated- as well as every Windows update done.

you need to install the dx9 runtimes manually they are not on windows update. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34429
also install the latest amd beta drivers
http://forums.guru3d.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46 stickies on this page will help you get them
also grab drivermax and check that your audio and chipset drivers really are up to date with it(its free and, despite looking a bit sketchy, its a legit app) the free account will only get you 2 or 3 driver downloads a day, but, with it you can see what driver you need to look for and what version, its been priceless in my tech support/computer support jobs!!!
also grab the latest RadeonPro and use it to make a custom profile for gw2 if needed(i use the framelimiter to lock it at 30fps most of the time, that way it dosnt jump between 30 and 120fps..(smoother the better if you ask me)
good luck.

Ill take a look at the DX9 Runtimes, I was under the impression all of the runtimes would be up to date. (Though some libraries did seem to update with MSI Afterburner install)
As for the drivers. I’m running the latest and running the latest beta as well. Which in Windows 7 was absolutely amazing when it came to smoothing everything. I lock my FPS in game I suppose I can get another program to do that as well. I just didn’t need it prior to the Windows upgrade (Which was a fresh install)

the in game locker dosnt work well, and causes input lag, if you check this section you will find it dosnt work properly and never has.
and you always need to install the dx9 runtimes manually on vista/7/8 because its not included thats why so many games include it in their installers….sadly some include very old versions of the full re-distributable as well…
either way tho, update dx9 with the web installer or latest redistro when they update it, that way you get any bug fixes that come out.
hope this helps, cant tell you how many people assume that dx9 is included with windows and updated by windows update…….common misconception….it should be an optional download and update honestly….

I’m actually still having the same issues. I was away for the week but my DX was up to date, which I figured it would be since another game I play installed some of the libraries.
Still the same issue, the game performed a lot better in Windows 7; at least 15 FPS improvement.. Any other tips or suggestions?

Any other recommendations aside from scrapping an OS?
Hi again Jereguy – I would recommend trying a couple of these tweaks to see if this improves your in-game performance at all:
1. Right-click on your desktop and select “Catalyst Control Center.”
2. Select “Preferences” and left-click “Advanced mode.”
3. Click the “Gaming” tab on left.
4. Select “3D Application Settings.”
5. Under the heading “Anti-Aliasing” checkmark “Use application settings” but do not check “Morphological filtering.”
6. Under the heading “Anisotropic filter” checkmark “Use application settings.”
7. Under the heading “Tessellation” checkmark “AMD Optimized.”
8. Under the heading “Catalyst A.I.” move the slider to “Performance.”
9. Under the heading “Wait for vertical sync” move the slider to “On, unless application specifies.”
10. Under the heading “Anti-Aliasing Mode” move the slider to “Performance.”
11. Click “Apply” to save these changes and then start Guild Wars 2.
Once loaded, access the “Graphic Options” window and make the following changes:
1. Change “Refresh Rate” to “60 Hz”
2. Change “Frame Limiter” to “60.”
3. Change “Reflections” to “None.”
4. Change “Render Sampling” to “Native.”
5. Enable “Vertical Sync” at the bottom.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the reply Ashley.
Your settings were quite similar to what I had it at, aside from you turning reflections off. I typically have the terrain (2nd option) on and had no issue.
I seemed to be getting better performance taking Frame Limiter off. I could hear my cards actually working for once. Vsync causes a lot of screen tearing in this game so I prefer to keep it off.
When turning around i go from 60 FPS to around 30 now, I haven’t tried it in a large battle, I’m afraid it’s going to bog it down terribly but we’ll see. Perhaps these are things you can mention to some devs. That and the fact that this game is poorly optimized with ATI cards. (can’t move UI for one thing is silly)
I suppose I can start turning settings down, but it’s something I didn’t really want to do considering, the power of my system.
