Q:
Maxing out GW2 on a GTX 770
You would gain a massively gigantic gain in performance with an i7 4770 or 4770k/4790K over the FX-6300. I’m even going to go out on a limb and say your performance will double in most areas.

Conventional wisdom of PC video gaming, where the GPU is everything, doesn’t apply here. The game’s performance is bottlenecked by single core performance, not that it uses a single core but because there are only three threads with any significant CPU usage.
RIP City of Heroes
I have a 770 gtx and it runs very smooth 60 fps max… my processor is an i5-4670k
No need for an i7… Trust me

Yes, a strong i5 (you can even grab the i5 3570K for much cheaper than the above 4670K and, once OC’d, they are very close in terms of performance) is more than enough for gaming, and even GW2’s hilarious performance problems.
Have a 770 paired with a 2600K.
Very rarely get under 60FPS, only in massive world events and WvW battles. I can even run around with Supersampling on and still maintain 60FPS most of the time. The 770 is a high-end card, even if it’s at the bottom of that group.
To be honest, you shouldn’t be struggling that much in general play even with a 6300.
How is the GPU connected to the PSU? Did you use separate PCI-E cables?
I have a 680 (which is a 770, but with slower memory speeds), and a 3770K. I have everything maxed @1920x1080, and I only dip in FPS when a lot of stuff is going on, never below 30fps at that.
It’s your CPU.
