Mouse and movement stutters
It just started for me recently. Same thing, mouse freeze or skipping at times even when doing stuff like mousing over items in my inventory. I’ve also been getting skill ‘pulsing’ freeze where after a few seconds it finishes and I’m maybe dead lol. I’ve also tried this in a quiet area with just my character and it does it from time to time as well. I’ve checked all my system resources and frame rates and I’m well within where I need to be. I’ve also messed with my mouse settings and that didn’t change anything either.
Oh and I threw a lawn dart into the ‘Customers + Arenanet + NCsoft + Marketing’ on the main board.
^— If I’m being honest some of these issues sound like poor internet connection related issues/latency issues. If you can try plugging in to ethernet and see if that helps.
I’ve never had the mouse freeze or skip, but the cursor disappears while hovering things in the inventory on occasion. That is however a game wide issue and something that happens on Windows as well.
It’s not an Internet issue. I know poor Internet issues when I see them.
I’ve seen the mouse cursor disappear while managing inventory (makes salvaging a pain), but that is not what I’m referring to. Also, the mouse cursor sometimes vanishes while in-combat making staff necro annoying (I have fast ground casting on, don’t care to turn it off either). I had seen this reported elsewhere also.
I have experienced the pulsing/skill input lag, but considering that has been reported hundreds of times by many others, I didn’t note that because the initial problem I listed is different and never occurs at the same time as the input lag. What I’m experiencing is like “lost input” as if the client never received key clicks it to send over the network to the servers. I’ve had a couple Mac friends experience it, but I don’t run on pc enough to confirm it happening there.
Cursor skipping/bouncing all over the place. It’s pretty eff’ing horrible. Wasn’t doing it yesterday (when I downloaded it and played a couple hours), but today I up’d the graphics a bit – which might the issue.
It’s absolutely in the game because I can close out the game, or even minimize it, and let my computer sit for a minute or so, and the wandering/teleporting cursor issue goes away.
Rebooting solves the issue until I start up the game again. Dumbing the graphics back down hasn’t remedied the problem either.

I feel your pain MrSens, but usually the issue clears up for me immediately outside the game, but immediately continues the second I’m back in (especially if I tab out/back). If you are having problems outside the game as well, you may want to start checking your computer for issues… Check mouse related settings, make sure you’re not overheating, does it still skip/jump when using the touchpad.
To make sure you’re not overheating, use istat to check your GPU and CPU temps while your system is running idle (no apps open), then check them after the game has been running gw2 for 10-20 minutes (or immediately after your skipping/jumping starts). Please post those here.
Using a 2nd post to mention a new issue occurring for me… And of course wondering if anyone else has had this.
Since one of the last couple updates, my cursor completely disappears on my screen while in-game. It used to come back after a couple seconds, but yesterday, it stayed “missing” for over 2 minutes. I tabbed out and back in several times, it was present and working outside of the game, but was still missing when I tabbed back in. It did reappear after I started using the left click randomly.
The odd concern for me was that I couldn’t even submit a bug report because I had no cursor to click anything lol.
So anyway, has anyone else observed this behaviour lately as well?
(oops, I think I just technically derailed my own thread)
Nope :S. The only time my cursor disappears is in the inventory on occasion, which happens in windows as well and isn’t a big deal.
I assume when it disappears it’s still there but just not visible? Like, can you hover things and click?
mine does it randomly. have to close the entire client and restart
It sort of does that, I think I can still use ground targetting, but I haven’t tried it on the ui or clicking anything because I just have no clue where it is. But like I said, it just popped back into visual after I spam clicked my mouse buttons, so I don’t know what is going on.
Do you have any shortcuts that you use for playing where you hold down Control and click any of the F1-F12 keys? (These put the focus onto other things, for example the menu bar, which I believe would allow the game to stay active because it’s running in full screen but it would shift the mouse focus off screen).
Also, what mice are you using? Is this with an apple magic mouse/mighty mouse or is it a 3rd party mouse. If you’re using a MBP what happens if you try Three finger dragging or performing some kind of multi-touch gesture with the trackpad, does it release the mouse?
I’m just wondering if perhaps the issue is that GW2 is losing the mouse focus and can’t reactivate it for some bizarre reason?

Logitech mouse. I don’t own a magic mouse or any other for that matter, but the problem still occurs while using the touch pad (forgot to mention that bit above, I tried moving around the touchpad to test if it was just dead mouse/mouse input issue). But I have not tested multi-touch gestures as I typically only use those to get to my widgets to check temps and such, I’m old fashioned there.
I sometimes use control when running around so I don’t miss any wooden boxes or when I need to see nodes/items of import on screen, but I wasn’t when this newest occurrence happened most recently, nor do I use control during battle (which is when I most typically lose my mouse cursor and drop ground targetted spells in completely random locations lol… Like on a wall). I do use the Fn key to use the f1-f12 keys, but this happened on my necro, out of combat, in LA.
The only key combinations I use other than standard game play mechanics is command+tab.
My guess is it seems to lose input functionality or even, as you said, mouse focus at times (hence some of the minor movement issues I’ve posted about elsewhere and sticky keys), considering sometimes, the mouse cursor is still visible, but isn’t moving and then takes a couple seconds to respond again.
It’s not the worst thing in the world, but it’s made me consider investing in a new mouse, despite the fact that it only “malfunctions” in gw2 lol. That’s partially why I bring up issues here, to see if it’s only me or not. But since I’ve found that some peeps get it on pc too, I’ve put off that decision for a bit still. It’s relatively minor compared to other things and even more so considering how few report it on the forums, so I doubt it will ever be looked into.
(I figure I didn’t use the word considering enough, so I’m using it again lololol)
