Sorry if this has been asked a million times but I couldn’t find a topic on this specific question that I have. Has anyone tried moving the .dat file from a Win7 computer to a Win8 system and had success in getting it working? I’ve done it before just fine Win7 to Win7 but I cant get it to work going to Win8. Just keeps wanting to DL the whole game again.

Any advise? Maybe this just doesn’t work between the two but I’m just trying to figure that out.

Yes, you can just copy Gw2.dat from Win7 to Win8.

Check the disk of the computer you’re copying it to. Open Computer, right click the drive, select properties, then check the drive for errors under the tools tab. If the disk has errors, you won’t notice while writing, however when trying to read it back, it’ll fail.

Instead of trying to run Gw2.exe after copying, try Gw2.exe -repair

Copy the .dat and the .exe and make sure they are located in the same folder.
Also don’t put it into the programs folder, uses something like /games/gw2

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
