I just got back from the Anet bash in Seattle and tried redeeming my Mr. Sparkles mini pet code, but it doesn’t seem to work. I put the code in exactly as it’s printed on the back of the GW2 credit card looking thing I got from the bag. It only comes up as an invalid code.

Is there anyway I can redeem it or do I have to wait till the new patch before I can redeem it? I tried it with the dashes as well as without the dashes. Neither works.

So it’s not just me!

I sent a support ticket yesterday and they updated it last night to tell me that my code had already been redeemed on an account. That wasn’t even close to true unless they accidentally printed duplicates or someone with access to the bags was a scumbag. Now it’s looking very likely that it’s a problem on their side.

I’m going to update my ticket with a link to this thread, but you guys might want to open a ticket as well if you haven’t done so already. There is something very wrong and they need to know it’s not an isolated incident.

You guys have no idea how comforting it is to know that I’m not alone. I was really frustrated until I found this thread. >_>;;

Thank you for your patience.
The listed forum post is in regards to not being able to apply the code to an account. In the event that the code is not used and a player is having trouble with redeeming the code we can certainly help. Due to this code has already been used and these codes have a onetime use allotment, we will not be able to help resolve this issue. I am sorry that we cannot help the way you would have wanted in regards to this issue.

This is complete bullcrap! My code wasn’t acquired from some shady source and I’m 100% sure it was NOT used since it came from a bag handed out at the event yesterday. I was the only person to attempt using it and I got the same exact error everyone in this thread got. Now they are telling me they won’t help me. WTF man? This is leaving a really sour taste in my mouth.

I’m an honest person and someone very close to me, who attended the event from start to finish, was how I acquired my code. I had no plans to sell the kitten thing even though I could definitely use the money. I just wanted it for my collection and that’s why he gave me the code instead of using it himself.

I feel like the unluckiest person on the planet right now.

Reference #: 130831-002544 in case Gaile or someone happens to stumble upon this thread.

I would be lying if said that wasn’t one of the first things that came to mind since I saw one sell for $700 the other day and a couple for around $500 last night. That would be a pretty scummy thing to do and I hope that’s not what actually happened.

It seems more likely that there’s a problem with their code redemption system. I’m hoping that’s what it is so there might be a happy ending for me and everyone else struggling with their codes right now. This would also allow me to hang onto the last shreds of faith in humanity I have left.

I think it would (also) be helpful (if they are, in fact, redeemed before those of us who actually got the card with the code could do so) is if Anet would look at the IPs and DATES of when previously redeemed. I mean if the IP is in China… or the date is PRIOR to the event day/time, that would kind of tell them something. :P

I can send an image of the card and a photo of me at the event so… it isn’t like I’m lying. :-\ … nor are the rest of you on this thread.

I sent a picture of the card with mine and you see where that got me. I even asked them to check both of our accounts to verify that the code wasn’t redeemed by either of us. None of that seemed to make a difference.

The fact it’s a holiday weekend means we probably won’t be able to get Gaile’s attention until Tuesday.

It’s probably a related issue to the same one that’s crippling the Black Lion system – there’s a hiccup with the system calendar or date calculation now we’re on 1st September it would seem. The Support website gripes about expired certificates when you first visit the page too – someone got in holuiday mode too soon I guess :P

Hey guys,

Having the same issue with the code I got from the anniversary bash. Sent a ticket last night and got a reply this morning:

“The reason that you’re having trouble with that serial code is because it is region specific for European game accounts. Your game account is designated for North America. Did you attend an event that these codes were being provided? If so, can you confirm which event you attended? If you didn’t receive this code by attending an event, can you confirm how this serial code was obtained?”

So I’m guessing some European codes somehow got into the mix? Because the code I got was definitely from PAX last night.

Sounds like there are several issues. One where the code is already in use, and one that may be related to region / time issues.

I gifted Strawberry Nubcake the mini code, and here’s to hoping Anet takes this issue seriously and makes things right. The codes where handed individually in gift bags at the top of the escalators, so to my knowledge no one outside of Arenanet had access to them prior to the handout. There has to be a way to check activation date and compare that to the card code handout.
Since I and it seems most submitting tickets have physical cards and proof, I remain optimistic this will be sorted.

Also want to mention that it was a fantastic event Anet threw. Many thanks and I enjoyed meeting a lot of the player base in person.

I received a reply only asking for the code. Nothing was said about it being used, or someone entered it, so i would assume from this response that they’re aware of this and are possibly be working on a fix. But its Sunday so i wouldn’t expect a rush.

We are in the process of investigating this issue for you and you should receive an update as soon as we have more information to provide. We may need more time if you contacted us on a weekend or holiday, but someone will respond to this support ticket as soon as possible.

I got the same update here. They also mentioned that “You are having trouble applying your serial code because your game account is not set to the same region as the code that you are trying to use”.

Perhaps these were from the same batch of cards distributed at Gamescom.

First, Don’t Panic!

The reason everyone is receiving weird response from Support is that their standard scripts don’t allow for the possibility that something was wrong with a bunch of codes. Based on ANet’s past behavior, they will resolve this, but perhaps not for a few days. Hang tight.

Second, a lot of people have offered reasons as to why this happened. Some appear plausible or even likely and some sound extreme even for the Tin Foil Hat Brigade™. Keep in mind that each one is pure speculation — we don’t know why this is happening. Yet.

Third, obviously some Support personnel need to do a better job of recognizing when something happens that doesn’t fit their scripts. Some also need to learn to express a touch of actual sympathy. They shouldn’t make legit players feel as if they did something wrong, even as they try to deny claims by scammers. But, of course, how the team members behave has little to do with the root cause or ultimate resolution of the issue.

tl;dr Be patient, this will get resolved.

I just got a response from a supervisor about my code. It was in fact activated by someone else several days before the event. That’s right! A code printed on a card that my boyfriend got Saturday was redeemed several days BEFORE the event. They are still telling me that they are sorry about being unable to assist me in the manner in which I hoped.

You would think they had a few extra codes lying around in case issues like this arise, but they are giving the impression that there aren’t any. Unbelievable. I’m actually in tears over this.

I hope karma gets whoever used my code.

The reason they don’t work is because they are European only. Anet apparently gave out the wrong cards, because I ended up giving it to a friend on the Euro servers and it worked without a hitch.

So just thought I would put that out there. Everyone with a code, it won’t work unless you are on a Euro server.

This is what I had to do to get mine onto my account and what my sig other is in the process of doing to get his onto his account. It turns out the codes that were given out are region locked for another region that is not NA (I’m assuming EU). Customer service has to manually apply the code to your account in order to get the mini onto your account. Those encountering issues will want to submit a support ticket at support.guildwars2.com with following information…

-How you acquired the code (If you got it from an ArenaNet event like the Anniversary Bash, emphasize you received the code directly from ArenaNet).

-That you attempted to enter the code in-game and it didn’t work.

-That others have had the issue, were informed the codes are region locked for a region that is not NA, and had to have the code manually applied to their accounts by customer service.

-Indicate you want the code applied to your account (be sure to include the serial code number as well as the e-mail account associated with the account you want code applied to).

-Attach a screenshot of the error and a photo of the promo code card with the serial number.

Feedback to ArenaNet for future events: please ensure that serial codes for future NA events are not region locked to EU (and vice versa). The Anniversary Bash was in the NA and the vast majority of those who attended are on NA servers. Yet I and many others received codes that are only usable on European servers at this NA event.

While I appreciate the excellent customer service I received to resolve the issue and get the mini onto my account, this has created a lot of additional work for both players (who have to take an extra step to reach out to support in order to get their goodies) and customer service agents (who have to investigate the tickets and manually apply the codes to each player’s account).

Mine doesn’t work either. ArenaNet just can’t win for losing. They give out Euro codes to Americans attending a NA event in Seattle.

The longer this draws out the more you’ll be alienating some of your most ardent fans (those that took the time to come to your event).

The codes are EU codes, which was a mistake. But customer server cannot magically convert all the unredeemed codes that are still in circulation into NA codes. Those of us who received EU codes at the Anniversary Bash are having to reach out to customer service for them to manually apply the minis to our accounts. And to be fair, it seems that most who have reached out to customer service reported that customer service applied the minis to their accounts fairly quickly.

The only case so far that has been drawn out is Strawberry’s, who has a unique case that is more complex than a simple “the code is region-locked for another region, we have to manually apply” issue. All we can really do is is be here for Strawberry for emotional support and hope that she is able to get situation resolved quickly.
