Forgive me. Multiboxing is allowed, as long as you’re not using it the way the program was intended to be used (i.e. controlling multiple accounts simultaneously). Clearly, if you tell someone “multiboxing is ok”, they’ll assume you meant controlling one real account and have multiple slave bot accounts follow your movements.
So again, if you’re caught using it the naughty way, you’ll have all your accounts banned. I think GM Chris might have mentioned when he got rid of someone’s main plus alts.

You can still multibox for events like eye of zhaitan to have multiple chances for pendant of arah. Or basically anything that lives long enough to alt tab around.

The rule for most MMO’s has always seemed to be that multiboxing is OK as long as everything is being controlled by a human. And multiboxing in GW2 is really hard to pull off.
The “You must be actively playing on each account” rule seems like a strange one though. Can you really be banned for going AFK? What’s the reason for this rule?

You can go AFK and not be banned.
What you can’t do is have a macro, script, bot or similar copy the movements you make on one account onto the other accounts.
As part of ArenaNet’s policy on third-party programs, we are often asked about multi-boxing and the use of macros. Here is our policy:
Dual- or Multi-Boxing
- You must be actively playing on each account.
You can go AFK and not be banned.
What you can’t do is have a macro, script, bot or similar copy the movements you make on one account onto the other accounts.
They should revise that rule so that it’s a bit more clear.
I’m sure the current Anet staff knows what they mean by “You must be actively playing on each account”. But give it a few years, a few replacements of the staff, and you’ll have people getting banned for going AFK because the new staff follows the old rules far too literally.
Even though they’ve rolled it back, there are already examples of the new staff coming in and going ban-crazy on the legit players. And there would be players on these forums mindlessly defending it too.
The game should do periodic scans of players to see if they are in fact AFK (or running into a wall constantly) and set their status to AFK automatically after a period of time. (say a minute or 2). Players with AFK status should not receive rewards or be involved in scaling events and should be kicked back to character selection screen after some longer period of time (say 15 minutes).
If it’s not lucrative for players to go AFK intentionally, maybe they wouldn’t do it so much.

issue with multiboxing is the pet classes. they are the reason multiboxing is such a gray area.
if you were to AFK in a busy place where you pet does all sorts of damage and never dies (SW for example) your character will reap the rewards from the events.
Non pet classes have to actually run a bot/script program in order to accomplish the same thing, gotta love game mechanics right?!
but thats the issue with multiboxing and why its such a gray area.
that being said, I multibox to be able to run world bosses on my MAIN account and to play the TP (i like to treat it like stocks!) on my Secondary account, while i wait for boss spawns. According to the rules that is perfectly OK as I am not scripting or using any automation at all.
I also never play a ranger/necro while AFKing for the boss spawns.
