I’m mostly here to see if anyone in the community has been in this situation before, not to attack or defame NCSOFT/ARENANET/GW2. In anycase, here is a description of the situation:

Within the last couple of weeks a fellow guild member of mine had an individual repetitively access his account, after having hacked his email. Though he denied access multiple times through his email, the individual eventually managed to reset my guild member’s account through correspondence with a gamemaster/moderator by the name of “GM ImaginaryPixel.” The hacker then took all the gold from his account, and anything of value, luckily did not delete the character, and logged off. My guild member proceeded to regain access to his account through his email, setting new security checks on both his email and his in-game account. It was not but a day later, however, while playing with us, that he was logged off and informed he was banned for “illicit activities with gold.”

All of this occurred even after he had submitted emails and support requests as to what happened and a request for an account rollback. It is particularly distressing that he had only recently switched servers for my guild (through the method of wiping all of his other characters out) and is now being punished because someone else used his account. I am very interested to know whether anyone else has been hacked in a similar manner, and banned. What did you do in response, and did it work?

The CS Team often closes an account that is suspected or known to be compromised, in order to keep it safe. They do this while investigating what has transpired, and determining the correct person to return the account to.

Once everything has been investigated, the account will be returned, and an Account Retoration implemented.

Your Guildie will have to wait while this process takes place. It is quite common.

I went through a process with CS when my GW1 account was hacked and banned right as GW2 was released – I had to wait for the process to be resolved before I could link my accounts and had to set up a GW2 account with a separate email just to play.
In the end the CS team solved the issue, my account was returned, they even changed my emails so they matched and they linked my accounts for me.
Have faith in the CS team, they will resolve it in the right manner.
