Hey guys, hopefully you’ll be able to help me, so basically as my title says.

First, ill tell you the specs of my computer, then the specs of my sister in laws comp.

(my)
XFX 6870 BE Dual Fan
Phenom II 955 x4 Oc’d to 3.8Ghz
8GB of 1600 mhz corsair vengeance ram
Samsung 7200Rpm 1TB
520W antec high current gamer PSU
windows 7 64bit

(sister in law)
GT440 oc
AMD Phenom 9150e x4
4gb of standard ram
OCZ 500W ModXStream PSU
180GB antec hard drive
windows vista 32 bit

So we both play at 1920×1080 resolution
I have a dual set up display, not sure if this could affect it, as it doesnt in any other game i play.

on my pc i can play BF3 on max settings and have 60 fps with vsync on that never drops.
When it comes to guild wars i have to play on medium settings with shadows turned completely off and i only get 20 fps rarely goes higher unless im looking at the ground.

So my sister in laws pc can max gw2 on EVERYTHING with no fps drop or stuttering with 60+ fps.

Im really genuinely confused to why this is? maybe its something to do with Nvidia and ati, i really dont know, if any help is possible id be extremely gratefull, as i really enjoy gw2 and i want to maximise my gaming experience.

cheers.

Firstly, no she can’t. Her computer is in no way capable of dealing with the AA, reflections and shadows on max at 60FPS. No way. The 440 just doesn’t have the memory bandwidth to deal with that at 1080p. If you’ve used some kind of tool to measure that, it’s wrong.

You need at least a GTX 670 to have stable 60FPS on highest settings, probably even better to keep it there with supersampling and ultra shadows.

Secondly, try taking the OC off your processor first to see if that improves matters. OC can sometimes cause problems with game performance.

Thirdly, make sure all of your drivers up to date. And I mean all. Sound, USB device, GPU, chipset.

the exact settings she’s using are;

Animations – High
AA – FXAA
Environment – High
LOD – High
Reflections – All
Textures – Med
render sampling – Native
Shadows – High
Post processing – High
Best texture enabled
Depth blur enabled

Okay maybe not 60 fps I checked, it’s between 30-45

Still doest explain why its better than mine?
Before I overclocked it, it was even worse.

Yea, but of a difference :P

Have you got overdrive on in CCC on your computer? Have you got the Crossfire Application Profiles installed and up to date?

Over driver in CCC?
I don’t run crossfire, is that to do with the crossfire application profile?

Is your overclock on your CPU stable? what temps are you getting while gaming.

Download and install the latest CAP (Catalyst Application Profile). They are mainly to improve performance on Crossfire settings or Dual-GPU cards like yours.

While gaming, my CPU heat never goes higher than 43 degrees, my gpu never exceeds 60 either, installed the CAP, still no improvement, the gt 440 still is better.

power supply related? 520w barely meets the requirements for your card alone.

I don’t thinkso it’s been working perfectly fine for over a year now, and it’s not like it’s not performing for anything else, it’s just guild wars.

Don’t talk rubbish, it easily meets the power requirements. You can run a single 7950 on a 520W PSU without any worries, even a 7970 only requires 36A of continuous power from the +12V rail – The Antec that he has puts out 40A.

He could even have an i7 Sandy Bridge in there with a 7970 and it would still be providing enough power.

Please don’t spread false information.

Thanks for clearing that up, at least I now know my psu can handle the
Gtx 670 that I’m considering upgrading to.

I’m not saying he can’t i’m simply stating what the video card he uses says it needs. which recommends 550w.

Yes, all NVidia and ATI overestimate what they need so that they can cover their assess in case some idiot running 5 HDDs, 4 optical drives and 20USB ports complains that he hasn’t got enough power to run the card, despite the manufacturer saying he has. They always add about 150W to the actual required amount.

For instance, my previous PC with an i5 2400 and OC6850 would draw 345W under load. ATi recommend at least 500W.

The annoying thing is that the manufacturers hardly ever specify that the PSUs should be 80+ Bronze rated at the least, which is far more valuable information than an inflated wattage.

There are some really poor PSUs out there that have a stupidly high wattage, but can’t provide a stable power ouput.

Obviously they up the “requirements” to cover their assess. This doesn’t mean that his PSU isn’t faulty and this just happens to be the first game that’s testing it (which makes no sense considering he can play bf3 at 60fps) either way some games are coded poorly and if there is anything about your system it doesn’t agree with problems can pop up. I had the exact problem when i was playing rift on my 950w corsair hx psu with my gtx 295, swapped psu and problem was solved.

Considering most people have an extra psu laying around it’s not hard to test.

I am 100% sure that my psu is not faulty, nor anything in my system, it’s only
Guildwars that’s the problem, and I don’t have a spare psu just laying around to try either, hopefully when I get my gtx 670 that’ll fix the problem.

That’s news to me.
