My friend just bought gw2 and he accidentaly started playing on another server than me.
Why dont you gw2 creators let every account change their homeserver just once? then you have to pay gems to move it a second time…
My friend and i cant play normally with each other because of this, now we have to guest all the time and that is very annoying….

Yes, it was stated in this forums. If there are no characters on an account, the server can be changed for free. The amount to be payed is for the characters to be moved to the different server.

As I posted yesterday,

One way to do it is to delete all characters, because the fee is for transferring the characters and not the account.

Did something change?

A person wanted to join our guild, and after deleting their characters it still said “your home server is” and they couldn’t transfer.

There is still a 7-day timer after you transfer. Had they transferred within the previous 7 days? Deleting characters will not reset the timer. It will remove the fee, though.

If you wait until a time when the server population says “low,” the transfer fee in gems will be lower. Server transfer fees are based on the population. It’s kind of silly, but it seems that it’s entirely based on the number of people logged into that server at that exact moment.

I know that’s not quite what you want, but it’s probably the best you’re going to be able to do, outside of the deleting all characters thing. (On the other hand, I don’t see American servers hitting “low” population much lately, if you’re on American servers. I’m sure it has to happen at some point, though. You can always stick with the guesting in the meantime.)

Therefore we proceed to write a sig.

I would really vote for at least 1 free character transfer per account. I have the exact same issue — friend started playing, hit me up, opse — wrong server.

News flash: It’s no surprise when people say they want something for free.

Please understand that there is a means to address issues where a new player sets up incorrectly, and transfer costs can be kept very low by choosing a low-population world. Given I remember the day when someone paid $50 for a server transfer, the gem cost seems pretty ok to me.
