I have the same problem. If anyone knows how to fix it, if he could tell it?
its not the application folder thing, i new about that fix but this is something different /:

Likely a networking problem. I can force a grey window (although with the Guild Wars 2 logo and Caithe’s portrait) by disabling the Ethernet port and then attempting to start the game.
Possible Solution: Ensure that your Internet connection is OK.
Same issues, any information for possible fixes?
When i log in to the client, all i get is this blank windowed screen. It just started happening. Usually it goes full screen.
I unclicked my Auto play, closed the client, restarted, and manually hit Play. While it does move me along and my screen automatically goes full screen mode, all I get is a black screen with the pointer. No other graphics are visible.

I have the same problem, if any one has a solution can you let me know please?
I hope, and pray to God they’ve not disabled the MacBeta.
I have the same problem – at first the login screen didn’t have the entry fields for username and password (which changed), then i got the game update and experience now the same problems with the black screen.
I’m experiencing the same problem. (OS X 10.8.2)
- The screen looks grey when windowed, black when in full screen. (You can toggle between display modes using cmd+enter.)
- The mouse pointer changes (arrow → hand) at the center portion of the screen.
Also, duplicate thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Character-selection-screen-is-blank
Ah and I have an addition: it seems only the display is buggy – i can hit enter to select my character and the game seems to load. At least i can hear my character’s chanting during casting, if i hit the keys.
I experienced no issues with the February 26 update. Game running fine for me.
Can you hear the Guild Wars 2 music playing?
What does Activity Monitor (in your Utilities folder) report? How much CPU is the game consuming?
Deleting the application support folder solved the issue for me.
i dont even have that folder and its not working
Any updates? I’m having the exact same issue. OS X 10.8.2. Was working right before the patch, patch kept disconnecting while updating (which I understand with the server stress), but now it won’t get past the black screen of death. I also don’t have a Guild Wars 2 folder in my application support folder.

Yes you do. Everyone does. The Library folder was hidden in OS X since version 10.8. Search this forums for how to locate it. It’s been a subject at least a dozen times.

The “disconnecting while updating” is almost certainly a sign that your update was corrupted. Delete the ~/Library/Application Support/Guild Wars 2/ folder and try again.
i only have 2 guild wars files on my computer are the app and the .dmg
im also running on 10.7 could that be the issue?
anyone else still have this problem???
i reinstalled the game thinking it would help and it didnt
I am still having the same problem. I still have the black screen.
My Guild Wars is dead. Tried all the usual fixes, uninstalled and reinstalled, now just get an error message that says:
s_initialized
A serious error has occurred that prevented the application from continuing. A report has been sent to ArenaNet to help determine the cause.
Are you guys deleting the Application Support folder? If you say it’s not there, you’re not looking in the right place.

@vince: yes i tried deleting the application folder, but it didn’t help.
hi i am also mac user had no problems until new build last night – now just get blank screen like you all describe – so frustrating – anyone know if they are trying to sort this??
hi — update to say that deleting the application support folder in GW2 worked:)))

Trash the .DMG file. It is no longer needed once the game is installed.
There is a “Guild Wars 2” folder located in your home directory at ~/Library/Application Support/Guild Wars 2/. Your Library folder may be hidden; read this forum on how to find it. Many people report that deleting this folder (to remove corrupted files) solves no-start problems. The Guild Wars 2 game will re-create the folder with fresh data.
Apparently you will always have this black screen if you have 10.6.x or lower. If you are like myself, since I have 10.6.8, I can no longer play GW2 according to the email I received from ANET.

Mac OS 10.7 Lion is the minimum Mac OS requirement. This has been known since September 18, 2012.
Reporting back: works again for me too (After removing the Application folder a second time, GW downloaded 8 files and worked again)
Yeah, deleting the Application folder enables it to download a few files then it works.
Deleting the application support folder solved the issue for me.
+1 – this solved my black screen, thanks for the link, too!
