Greetings!

For my birthday, my wife graciously purchased me two additional 23" monitors that exactly match the one I had for some oh-so-fun triple monitor Guild Wars gaming experience. I have two Nvidia GTX580 cards using SLI and everything seemed to come together perfectly. However, once in GW2, the two side monitors seem to distort the images (especially the character models) as shown in the attached screen shot. Playing the original Guild Wars, the character models are left unchanged and look perfect (second attachment). Any tips on what I may be able to “fix” to get GW2 to look like GW?

Thank you!

A photo of what I see in GW2 showing the odd things displayed on the side monitor. As you can see, the actual view from the monitor is worse than the screen shot (the actual screen shot cleans the distortion up a bit).

Thanks again for looking!

Isn’t that just normal perspective distortion from a very wide horizontal field of view?

In GW1, using a wider monitor gives a narrower vertical field of view, while in GW2 you get a larger horizontal field of view instead. In widescreen gaming forum terms, GW1 is Vert- and GW2 is Hor+. So in GW1 you actually see less with your setup, though there’s also very little perspective distortion.

The distortion probably looks worse on your monitors because the image being generated is a projection of the gameworld against a single flat plane, and your side monitors are at an angle.

Thanks for the response and the references. I think I get it and could probably live with the character models being stretched a little. However, I think the thing that throws me the most is the “distance change” to those models. For instance, the two screen shots below are the exact same distance to the Husk…I never moved. I just rotated my camera to look a different way and suddenly the Husk appears a great deal closer than he really is. If that is the way of things with multi-monitors, then I guess it’s just something to get used to. It’s just really disorienting when you see something in your peripheral and swing to attack, but your target is way out of range. During a battle when you are moving around, things are swinging in and out of distances at crazy intervals.

Thanks again for the links and the explanation… If there is anything else that can be “adjusted” with my settings that would lessen that effect, I’d love some ideas.

See you around Tyria!

That’s actually normal for a 3 monitor display.
