Need help for buying a tower for £250
I’m afraid if you want to play GW2 decently your going to struggle on a budget of £250. For a starters a semi decent graphics card is going to eat over half of that easily, then you still have all the other components to buy. Really if your looking for a decent specc’d PC that can run this game you need to at least double your budget.

The CPU itself will cost more than half your budget.
I’m afraid you are out of luck. Sell some lemonade, shovel snow, or go mow some lawns.

It’s really annoyed me. I’ve waited 3 months for a bloody chance to order my game, I run gw1 perfectly but now i just get black screen
PC game requirements in general have changed a lot in the intervening 7 years between GW1 and GW2.
You may be able to wing something at 350-400 pounds, 250 pounds is just to little even going with a dual core and a low end video card.
In Aria’s clearance bin they have this dual core system at 350 pounds but without Windows and this quad core at 400 pounds without Windows as well (this system is worth the extra 50 pounds IMO).
RIP City of Heroes
Im from the UK also and i can tel u that £250 just isnt enough. Just to give u an idea.. my graphics card cost over double that ..my cpu also cost over double that. My RAm cost half that. Now granted im using top of the line gear but even so.
A entry level graphics card like the Nvidia 650ti costs ~£90.
A cheap CPU like the FX 6350 costs around £110.
Then u also need: a motherboard .. RAM ..HDD.. PSU..Case. At the very minimum thats another £250.
Then if u dont have a OS to transfer over, u will need to buy or ‘aquire’ a copy of Windows 7, also a optical drive if u cant use an old one..so possibly add on another ~£90.
In all honesty after P&P and giving leeway for slightly higher prices u want atleast £600.

Why such a big HDD, bluray drive, and 1866 memory? 250GB, regular cd/dvd drive, and 1600 memory is fine.

To give you an idea of how it will work (sorry had trouble finding a GW2 video because the a10-6800k is still new and the video on youtube didn’t include the 6670 dual graphics)
Yes. It’ll play crysis.
edit: Here’s the GW2 video on the A10-6800k but withOUT the 6670, playing at about 25-30 fps while questing, you would get about double that with the 6670, so about 50-60 fps on med.
Also keep in mind, that guy is using the A10-6800k at stock speeds it seems , so with a little over clock, you could probably push 70 fps on medium settings at 720, or 60 fps at 1080, but those are rough guestimates.

You did a great job Swordbreaker, but there is one issue.
Computer components are always more expensive in the EU so he isn’t going to get the discounts that websites like Tigerdirect offer. Plus he will have to pay for shipping.

IMO though , that is the cheapest for best performance setup he’ll be able to acquire. Good luck with the build man! Ask the mom and dad for a little extra and I think you’ll be set on the questing anyway.

You could have been a little more constructive to the cause , and since you’re from the UK would be able to help him with a more realistic cost for the components listed with VAT, instead of criticizing others.

Using Swordbreakers original list. minus the Blueray and 1866 ram.
Its over budget and tbh, its very very low end. I wouldnt recommend it to som1 looking for a entry level gaming rig. Considering just a couple hundread pound would make something VASLTY superior.
Oh and thats not including P&P which doesnt show on the UK partpicker.

We knew it was going to have to be seriously low-end from the moment we knew his budget. If he can save up a couple hundred more euros, he can buy an entry-level gaming pc that will play gw2 on lowest settings with enough fps for him to enjoy.

I was thinking along the same lines Swordbreaker, but an A10-5700/5800K but the clock speed bump you get with the A10-6800K is rather nice.
I would still stick with DDR3-1866 simply because of the integrated GPU. You’ll get about a 8% bump up from DDR3-1600. Fastest way to get a GPU to underperform is strap it to slower memory and since the HD 7660D/8760D uses system memory …
I would skip the video card for now. If he was relying on the HD 3200 IGP, the integrated HD 7660D/8760D would still be like night and day. Plus it’s unclear if GW2 can really benefit from an CrossfireX with the HD 6670 suggestion. And if overclocking is out of the picture then so is the Evo 212, the stock heatsink is good enough.
And then there’s the dreaded Microsoft tax for a copy of the OS. That alone blows the budget. But if he is retiring his old box then he might be able to reuse the product key on the new box, assuming he can find it/didn’t scratch the sticker off the old box (assuming the old box is store bought).
But even after all this haggling, it’ll still be more than £250.
Edit: Using uk.pcpartpicker I got the follow A10-6800K without OS at about £300, OS is another £66. Some assembly required.

Thankyou guys.
But however I don’t know all about model types.. I’m 16 remember and don’t own a computer store!
It would be better. Think for myself to buy a pre made one.. Any UK stores and can you guys find a good pre made pc or laptop hat would play this?? I don’t mind about price this time , however keep it around 400 pounds! Pleaseeee
Hi robertlee,
For budgets under £400 I saw this from SolerNova’s post.
£389.99 inc vat (limited time only special 2left in stock – normal price £415)

looks good enough to play the game decently for its price which to be brutally frank is the lowest priced gamer oriented pc I have ever seen.

Glad that smart minds think a lot. The 2nd link. For those who aren’t familar with the Athlon X4 750K, it’s an A8/A10-5xxx/-6xxx but without the integrated GPU enabled, and running only at 3.4GHz.

RIP City of Heroes
Hi Robertlee,
Getting a gaming system for £250 is a bit of an ask! Raising your limit to £400 is better but you will still likely be looking at the ‘low end’ of the market – especially for a pre-built complete system.
From reading this thread, it seems that building your own system is a little beyond your capabilities – absolutely no offence meant there. However, seeing as you have a PC (or seem to have from reading this), you have a good chance to save at least some money!
You should have no trouble using your old keyboard and mouse – this saves a small amount of money. Likewise, you should have no trouble using your old monitor – potentially a huge saving.
This means you can buy just the ‘tower’ so to speak. You may want to look at Dabs for this. Dabs are not always the cheapest and not always the most expensive but I can say they have always been reliable for me and had great ‘turnaround’ times.
http://www.dabs.com/category/computing,desktops-and-monitors,desktop-pcs/11101
That link showed me a mix of pre-built system that could possibly be something like what you want. You may need to refine the search though. Dabs also do good deals on components at times – so if you did feel up to building your own rig or had a friend or relative that could help this could be what you want. Lastly, dabs have a ‘bargain basement’ type area that is usually full of … bargains! Sometimes the bargain basement has second hand or returned items but everything is tested and guaranteed to be in working order and such. (Try the ’Clearance Corner!)
Another place to look for UK deals is NovaTech – not always hot on the bargains but sometimes great for such.

Good luck in your endeavors.

Indeed ..some UK sites to look at, that i have used myself.
Dabs
Novatech
Scan
OverclockersUK
Ebuyer
Aria
Aria has the best deals on prebuilds imo, they are pritty much bang on the cost of the components if bought seperatly which begs the question how they make a profit lol but still.. their prebuilds use good quality parts. No crappy oem PSU’s and such like alot of prebuilds skimp on.
This:
http://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Gaming+Range/Clearance+Gaming+PCs/Gladiator+750K-GTX650Ti+AMD+4.00GHz+Quad-Core+Next+Day+Gaming+PC+?productId=54930
Is a clerance rig meaning it uses a older platform, however its within ur price range and for a prebuild its goood for the price.
This:
http://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Gaming+Range/Award-winning+Gaming+PCs/Gladiator+6300-HD7870LE+AMD+4.10GHz+Six-Core+Next+Day+Gaming+PC+?productId=54933
Is £100 above ur price range but has a more up to date cpu and motherboard, and again for its price its good.
Aria do well with their prebuild systems.
