For those having issues creating a new character and getting the “Can’t connect to server” or “network error” messages, simply copy the entire game folder and paste it on another hard drive on your machine (assuming you have more than one). When you run it from the new directory, you can create a new character and play with no issues. For those with only one hard drive in their rigs, you’ll have to wait until they fix whatever the problem is :/

It does not fix the issue. You could just be lucky and able to create a character regardless of what drive the game was installed to. I had that once during the day. Out of multiple attempts I was able to actually create character and log it into game world once…. shame it had a random combination of letters for a name, should I have known I’d use a proper name and enjoy my ranger by now.

I’ve submitted a ticket earlier and their response was that ‘the Guild Wars 2 Development Team is aware of this issue and team members currently are working on addressing it’ and that we should ‘keep an eye on the official forums for any future updates and announcements’ bla bla. So hopefully a fix soon.

well i have the game installed on two separate hard drives. i ran it from one and it worked, logged out and tried to create another character from that same directory and it didn’t work. exited the game and went to the directory on the other hard drive and successfully created a character there as well.

I switched my firewall off. The new character creation worked on the 2nd attempt. It’s highly likely that it was a coincidence but it might trying that.

Did anyone here try adding -repair to the shortcuts command line in the Target field?
