I am having massive amounts of trouble getting the Gw2Setup.exe file to complete it’s business. I will first describe the issue, and then tell you what I have already done.

When I launch the file (and I know for a fact I’m not the only one with this problem) it proceeds to load up to 10,146KB – this number each and every time. The kb/s drops back down to zero and the window closes. For a brief moment it reappears, and then disappears permanently…Now the following I have done…so please I’m begging you NOBODY TELL ME TO DO THIS AGAIN…I have tried these steps MULTIPLE times to fix MY issue as well as that of another person we are trying to install on another computer.

1. I have ensured that I have no firewall blocks, all ports are open, no antivirus issues etc.

2. I have changed my virtual memory to system manage

3. I have gone into my windows commands and verified I have no programs interfering via the MSCONFIG command instructions I have seen on here from AshleySegovia

4. I have updated all of my drivers, cleared out all of my cookies, defragged everything…not that it would make a difference but just in case.

5. As some have suggested I have used the windows command to run the file, I have added -dx9single to the end of it…still nothing.

6. I tried someone’s suggestion of changing the gw2.dat file that is generated into a gw2.exe and trying to run that, nothing.

7. Dragged the gw2setup.exe to the desktop and tried to run it, nothing.

8. Did all of my windows updates

All I have been able to find on this forum and others are endless complaints regarding this issue, and not a single iota of a resolution. Now I understand that ArenaNet is busy…and with it being a free-gameplay type of thing there is no telephone technical support…but seriously.

And attached is my report from Game Advisor…I hope it makes a difference.

This issue shouldn’t be a problem in downloading some files. I could understand if I was not able to RUN the game post installation…but the simple fact that I’m not the only one with the luck of that magic number…perhaps this should be escalated further.

Thanks for your help in advance…

It appears you’re using wireless USB adapter to connect. Personally, I’ve had a lot of problems with those (unrelated to GW2). I’d definitely try using a cable to connect to the router and/or modem.

Secondly – and this is bad news- I don’t believe your video card is supported by the game. You need a card that supports Shader Model 3.0.

Thank you for your response. I can see that the one I have on that particular computer may not meet the graphics card requirement…although I do not understand how that should be affecting simply downloading the client. I would think perhaps that type of issue would present itself when I would actually try and play the game. Some admin help here would be great considering I KNOW that I’m not the only one. . . and if that’s the problem then that would be GREAT to know. Again I thank you for your reply, XcomCaveRat ><

You know, I agree with you. The only reason I mentioned video card is because AshleySegovia has, in fact, stated that running installer on “under minimum requirements” system may not even allow it to download anything. See here:

You probably have already downloaded the client.

You can go to C:\Users\{UserName}\AppData\Local\Temp and look for a file called gw2.exe there. That is the client application. You can copy it to some other location (where you want game to reside) and try running it as Administrator.

(I just did that myself out of curiosity. Copied gw2.exe on USB stick to my older laptop and ran it. It happily proceeded to download 200K+ remaining files.)
