Hi guys.

Looking to buy a new PC. All I want is one that will play GW2 perfectly on max settings. I’m not a huge gamer these days by any means, but the game I do play I’d like it to run flawlessly.

Any recommendations?

There is no such PC. Sorry but what you are asking for is beyond the capabilities of this horribly optimized engine.

I’m even open for ANet to respond! I see their videos and like them!

As an aside…I’m on an AMD-ran laptop. On low/mediums ( mostly low ) I’m getting 30-40 in the open world, and during zergs for WB’s…about 13 is my peak.

Your best bet is to get an i5/i7 K series processor and overclock it to the best of your ability using a very good aftermarket cooler.

i7 3770k oc 4.5 H100i(push/pull) 8gb Corsair Dominator Asus P877V-LK

The problem is, it the guild wars 1 engine modified. So it doesn’t use the full capacity of our new pc stuff. In a zerg the cpu is running at 100% which doesn’t make any sense because i got a i5 3570k OC at 4,7Ghz.

i7 3770k + Corsair H100i. OC to 4.5ghz or higher.
GTX 780 GPU.
128gb/256gb SSD

Build around that and u will be able to run GW2 as good as is currently possible. BUT it wont be ‘perfect’ as the GW2 engine is just unable to run ‘perfectly’ no matter how much hardware u throw at it.

*I recommend the 3770k over the 4770k becouse its easier to OC heat wise. Also note an i5 can max out in some situations hence the i7 sugestion, here are other reasons for the i7 over the i5 but thats a discussion for a later date :P

3930k 4.6ghz | NH-D14 Cooler | P9x79 Pro MB | 16gb 1866mhz G.Skill | 128gb SSD + 2×500gb HDD
EVGA GTX 780 Classified w/ EK block | XSPC D5 Photon 270 Res/Pump | NexXxos Monsta 240 Rad
CM Storm Stryker case | Seasonic 1000W PSU | Asux Xonar D2X & Logitech Z5500 Sound system |

Basically my setup. Runs this game rather well on near-max settings. 4770K is roughly 10% faster core-for-core and can be delidded just like a 3770K…so I would go with the 4770K.

I don’t think too many people are going to delid just for gw2 lol.

Get yourself a dual cpu motherboard, put 2 intel xeons (5000$ each), 2 ssds raid 0, get 2 top nvidia cards (1500$ each), put 64 gigs of ram, make a ram disk, put gw2 into ram disk.

Who said JUST for GW2? Delidding helps overall because it decreases heat…regardless of if you overclock or not.

Already been proven that two physical CPU’s does not help performance in this game.

Play this game flawlessly you say, and on max settings? Better have deep pockets.

You’ll basically want an intel i7 Haswell 6 core (4930K or 4960X) overclocked to like 4.5 GHz or higher and a GTX 780 or 770 (doesn’t matter tbh). Everything else as needed but the processor is what you’ll need! People with 3930K at 4.6 GHz still don’t get 60 FPS in wvw

I see no point to make a new topic for my question so I will just drop it here, hope its ok :p
I am extremely bad with computers… I have a fairly decent PC as I have been told and I run my game on medium/high, but here is the problem – I crash sometimes when I have played for a few hours or most likely when I am loading a map or when I turn the wvw settings to high.
I cant run with wvw char quality on high, I either crash ~10 seconds after putting it on high in LA where there r loads of people or crash a few minutes later when im loading a new area.
(When I say wvw char quality I mean the option that makes all people look the same and not see their actual armor etc)

What upgrade would I need to make it work fine with no crashes, so I could run in high populated zones and wvw with character quality settings on high. That would increase my gameplay a lot, I could see the skill animations etc and obviously just make the game look better. (I do not care about running the game on high/ultra, just about the char quality/crashes)
Sorry for off-topic, but any help is appreciated.

I have been in I.T for 15 years and I don’t have the “stones” to delid a $350 CPU but that is just me
Go for it if you think you can do it , I know that it is worth doing.

On a side note lets hope Intel gets it right with the TIM on the next series of CPUs

Deliding does indeed help. But its a risky proposition.
There are two methods to do it, both can cause u to break the CPU.
One requirs a hammer, a vice grip, and a block of wood. (yea i know right :P ) .
Its quiker to do..but yea ..hammer .. :P lol
The other uses a razor blade.
Takes alot longer as u need to cut throug the black glue that holds the IHS to the PCB, and u have to be carfull, if u push the blade to far thourgh u can damage the core.

Anyway i wouldnt recommend it unless u had the money to buy another CPU straight away ..just in case. Or unless u have very steady hands for the razor blade method.

The 3770k even without delidding can OC well enough, the 4770k though, that thing is just too kitten hot when OC’ed without delidding. I mean i have a 4770k in another rig in the house, so its not like i hate them and dont think they are good, but i wouldnt expect to get more than 4.4ghz out of it, unless i was lucky.

The only true CPU’s that are perfect for OCing out of the box are Sandybridge/2nd gen i series CPU. Those being the 2500k, 2550k,2600k,2700k, 3820, 3930k 3960X, 3970X. As they all have soldered IHS’s.
