New PvP - High polygon count - unplayable
They have not optimized strong hold yet, that is why your frames are so low. I agree that the FPS drop was rough, I was chilling around 5 FPS for most stronghold games which is why I didn’t play it much. 20 FPS is a dream for a some of us btw which is more than playable imo. Of course, they will optimize it before release so no need to worry.
Am I good?… I’m good.
What does it mean to optimize a map?

I think they can lower some of the model’s polygon count, and still have it look the same, and reduce loads on the CPU.
Like decrease the overall quality of it?

Optimization is a process that is used to improve efficiency. It doesn’t lower the quality.

I can second this. I can play other PvP maps with 40 FPS, Stronghold is ~20.
Same with zones. Caldedon Forrest, Kessex Hills, what have you, all playable at like 30 FPS. Dry top, Silverwastes: 20FPS or lower. And these “new” zones have been out for ages so it’s proof they won’t optimize anything/any more.
Stronghold only lags really bad in certain areas though. I can say that in the blue starting area it is way laggier than red starting area.
I played on 2 years old laptop and never dropped below 29 fps on Stronghold.

High poly count is good. Its 2015 and system requirements often go up over time in MMOs. Its not Anets fault if you use ancient low budget hardware.
I’m not playing on a low end rig and there was a noticeable FPS drop in some spots on the map. The OP’s point is a valid one and it is worth mentioning while we are still in the beta period. Having an optimized game is never a bad thing. I am not saying code for everything and you have to code planning on new tech but it is worth the call out since it wasn’t showing up in the other feedback threads that I could see.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Pretty sure I was sitting at like 100-130 fps….

Did you see a difference on entering the lord area out of curiosity? Was trying to note where the spots that the slowdowns hit but with the limited time of the beta there was a lot to do/try.

This map has way too much trees in the map. My camera got block by the try branch all the time.

Not really but the human eye can only see 60 fps anyway. Somehow my gtx 770 4gb oc version hits over 200 fps sometimes when playing gw2, my fps probably just stays higher due to having very nice hardware.

Someone just had to bring it up. The human eye can spot and process a flash image up to around 220hz. On a monitor, frame movement depends on pixel movements, which is not the same as “seeing” fps. Your eye does not see in fps. You can have a static image at 1 fps or 1000 fps and the eye couldnt tell the difference. In a high movement scene 60fps on 60hz vs 144fps on 144hz… It most definetly can.

Oh don’t get me wrong I can see the difference between my old 60z and my new 144.

But why is this area that is smaller than WvW, more laggier than it? it should be due to optimisation?
I think many people are playing with normal hardware – i consider mine. its a quad core 2.4Ghz, with ati 6750m, sure its not a super high end rig. But should be able to play with all low settings at least right?
Im setting all to low and still getting 20 Fps, the thing is other areas i can play at 40-60. Only this map.

its not about high polygon counts. A Cube of 1 million polygons will look the same with a cube of 12 polygons. But the former will kill your cpu.
its about optimisations so that you don’t use more polygons than u need to display the same thing.

Its clear that the new maps have a higher poly count because they are more detailed and not because they are a cube with 1 billion polygons.
Gw2 has always had Occlusion issues(rendering massive bodies of water, complete with reflections, under most maps, for example). It makes your PC render things you can’t even see.
It can be good though; If you suddenly turn your camera ,quickly, behind you. You wont see as much of a FPS drop because the terrain is already rendered. But there’s many objects/effects that aren’t terrible to render-on-demand that are probably rendering all the time in the new map. Which really stresses the threads.
As it’s been said, You probably have to just give them time.
