Yesterday night, I notice a new line of text in red when making bot report which said that bot report has to be backed up with chat log and I risk my account getting banned if I make a report without a chat log to back it up.

Do the moderating team really think this is reasonable especially in my case last night, I am reporting a teleporting resource collector bot that appears for like 3 sec then disappeared near Fort Trinity?

In the past month, I reported no less than 10 bots all without a chat log to backup the report simply because it is common sense that no human can play a game continuously running on a fixed path at the same location for 10 hours straigth performing the same attack pattern over and over again.

Besides, it is not rocket science to make a bot that replies to player whispers with a set of preset reply. Such bot already existed since the days of Ragnarok Online, so how is it reasonable to require and rely solely on chat log to prove whether a player is botting or not?

I reported the bots I run into all the time because I care about the game but I never have a chat log to back up any of those reports, now I have to put my own account at risk of getting banned just to make a bot report. The way I see it, the new rules are just red tape to deter players from making reports.

When you use the report feature, the red text that you are describing appears for all report instances. Obviously, a chat log with backup applies more to other reportable offenses such as “scamming” or “verbal abuse.” Since bots do not reply to players most of the time, the red text most likely does not apply to this kind of report.

If you find that a player is indeed a bot and you report for botting, I would not worry about your account being banned. You are helping the game out and Anet would never punish anyone for that.

However, that being said, I would make 100% sure the person you are reporting is indeed a bot and there is no room for doubt.

There will always be room for doubt, the botters could simply said they are too lazy to reply and they should not be banned for not replying to someone ot they can argue that it is not an offence to get multiple people to play on 1 account through an extended period of time without logging out at the same location doing the same thing. It is all down to the judgement of the moderators and the person who make the report.

When I make a report, I do it because I am sure the character is a bot and I do spend time making sure that it is a bot, I just don’t spend time chatting with it.

Hi everyone,

If this was done was to ensure that all bot reports are backed up with evidence. Understand that the team needs as much of this as possible, since they must be 100% sure before issuing a ban, and this does really help.
We understand that, in the case of teleporting bots, this can be difficult. However we kindly ask you to please, try to provide as much evidence as possible.

Thanks for your understanding. This thread is closed.
