As title above shows I’m looking for a new desktop. The laptop i have used for the past 8 yrs has died. I know very little about computers so plan to have it built by a local pc store. The specs you see below are what they are recommending for my budget of 1k. I appreciate any advice you guys can provide.

Mainboard: GA-Z87-D3HP
i5-4570 3.2GHz
8GB Supertalent Ram
1 TB
Gigabyte GTX 660
Case: COOLER MASTER HAF XB RC-902XB-KKN1

Thank you

and nothing else is included like a power supply or DVD/CD/Blu-ray drive, your grand total without shipping and labor is: 789 (without rebate). So if you are fine spending 211 on shipping and labor (shipping can be free from Newegg if you make a trial account on shoprunner). If you know the ropes, Windows can be acquired for a decent price as well that involves four characters instead of triple digits. I’ll give you a hint, the first character is ‘f’ and the last two are ‘ee’, but even if you do include the 100 dollar cost of Windows, 111 on labor for at most 2 hours worth of work is kind of steep. If I got paid 30 bucks an hour (the rest going to profit for the shop) to build computers and install an operating system, sign me up.

If you plan on learning more about computers and building one yourself, you might want to consider a change. Instead of a 4570, get a 4670K. That way when you are adventurous enough to learn how to overclock, you have a processor that is easier to overclock and can achieve higher overclocks than the 4570.
