New graphics-card -> awful performance?
I made the exact same change a couple of years ago and got improvements in fps, but recently nvidia have been having trouble with their drivers. It looks like the new drivers are ‘only’ optimised for the 9xx series, and some sites are suggesting that the drivers actually hobble older series like the 7xx. I’m running 350.12 (it’s labelled as the GTA V driver) and that was the last ‘stable’ driver for the 7xx series. If you’re running driver 353.xx (you said your drivers are up to date) you could try running this one and see if that helps.
I only just updated all the drivers a few days ago.
Before, I ran a graphics driver version that was even a little older than the one you suggested (the one that came out in January this year) – still the same problem, unfortunately. :/
Get GPU-Z and check if you see @x16 there as bus interface.
If not check if your GPU in the slot next to you CPU .. if so remove it and press it in
again to make sure it is seated correct.

The gpu is runing at pcie 1.1, so it’s heavily bottlenecked. Make sure it’s placed in the correct pcie slot and the bios is not blocking the 2.0 speed.
Also try some driver from before Maxwell was released. Nvidia is known to downperform the older gpus when a new architecture is released. It happened to me with my gt 525m.
i7 5775c @ 4.1GHz – 12GB RAM @ 2400MHz – RX 480 @ 1390/2140MHz
strangely it only shows 1.1 when the game’s open – at the moment it’s showing me 2.0 oO
Xd btw, which cpu do you have?
i7 5775c @ 4.1GHz – 12GB RAM @ 2400MHz – RX 480 @ 1390/2140MHz
It’s an AMD A8-6600 Quadcore 3,90GHz
Uummm then it’s the cpu bottlenecking the gpu. This is a heavy cpu based game, so the first thing to get better performance is to upgrade the cpu.
Just going to an intel dual core you’d see a big improvement.
i7 5775c @ 4.1GHz – 12GB RAM @ 2400MHz – RX 480 @ 1390/2140MHz
Man… and there I just “upgraded” everything like 3-4 months ago ._.

The APU is holding you back due to the weak per clock performance of AMD. Your best bet is to look into buying a 1150 socket motherboard and a G3258 and plan on clocking it to 4ghz(stock cooling can handle this).

it just beats the pants of AMD for single threaded performance, and that is what affects GW2 the most.

Getting a G3258 and overclocking it would no doubt be great value for money but I wouldn’t recommend it in the long run. Especially for GW2 which is CPU intensive and for other games that might interest you.
An i3 would be a better option if you lack the money for i5/i7 while still giving better performance than your current CPU.
Hm… I still can’t really believe it… I mean, I could run the game without any problems on my 5-6 year old system and the new hardware can’t even handle it on the lowest graphics settings. oO
Could a newer CPU really be that bad?^^

What CPU did you have before ? You just said you upgraded ypir GPU.
Btw. do you still have the old GPU ? If so just try how it works with your new CPU.

My old graphics-card was broken, which is why i bought a new one in the first place. However, I also had to get a new mainboard and CPU, because I was told that the GTX760 wouldn’t work well with the one I had – so what I did was to pretty much exchange everything but the HDD and the DVD-drive and sell the old stuff that still worked.
The CPU I had before was an i5 2.3GHz if I remember right.
Hm .. 2.3 GHz I5 .. i only know them as Laptop Prozessors.
The desktop CPUs like i5 2500k have 3.3 GHz, and those are better than your AMD.

Even if you had a first gen i5 (i5-750) that 6800k would have been a sidegrade/slight downgrade.
A G3258 should do pretty all right though; my brother has one at 4.6 GHz and it’s a solid little chip, especially since the CPU+mobo combo was only $100.

Chance are you either had a first gen i5 (2.5ghz~) or a low power First gen or 2nd Gen i5. Those are the ones that are clocked under 3ghz.
Either way, that CPU would be better then the AMD Cpu you now have.
Might be worth it to investigate the cost of the MB replacement for the i5 on ebay/Amazon and go that route.

modern amd cpus should have ton of head room for overclocking. If you overclock it, probably be better than first gen i5.
however, i would not recommend that particular amd apu especially since he was going to pair it with a gpu.

i would had recommend this and overclock it.
So the gist of it is basically that I have to buy a new CPU in order to play GW2 again, even though I just bought a new one, which seems to be a downgrade from the 5-6 year old CPU I had before.
… that is kind of funny, in a sad and devastating way.^^
Pretty much. That is a pretty solid argument as to why you should research stuff before buying, though.
In any case, it is still surprising that your performance went down significantly with that CPU, since it’s (presumably) about the same as what you had before.

An i3-4160 would probably be a better buy than the G3258 for GW2, hyper threading would make a nice boost.
A few links I found out:

yea, i know. this cpu is a choice practically for amd fans

Hyper Threading doesnt work too well with GW2 on a dual core CPU. Higher clocked cores will trump HT for this game. You will see the effect more so around Zerg like content.
IMHO, G3258 is above all i3’s, then you jump into an i5 once that G3258 no long is adequate for you.
