you’re getting your moneys worth, but it is slightly dated.

Not by any means a weak machine, but if you want gw2 to run smoothly on ultra and for future games as well… I’d look for something abit more powerfull.

8gb of ram isnt exactly ideal, I’d aim for 16, but this you can just purchase on your own.

The graphics card is tested and solid, but again I’d opt for something abit higher, it will do the job, no question, but in a few years games will start to tax it.

All in all, the computer is worth the price they’re asking, at least as far as my country is concerned, and it’s a deffinite upgrade over a laptop xD

I cannot tell if that build comes with that Keyboard+Mouse+LCD screen or if its just a Tower…

But if its just the tower – That PC is not worth $733 bucks. Not with AMD and certainly not with a FX4350

However THIS → http://pcpartpicker.com/user/sirsquishy/saved/#view=gtbzK8 Is worth $618.34

Yeah, I’d recommend just staying away from CyberPower & iBuyPower altogether (they’re the same company). Cyberpower lost a class action lawsuit several years ago for fraud, when they got caught putting used and old OEM parts in people’s PC’s, but charging them for new parts without ever telling them. They are also notorious for having some of the worst customer service in the industry, and it’s considered an incredible feat if you can actually get them to honor any part of their warranty. Check their Consumer Affairs ratings sometime, they’re the lowest you can find in custom PC’s: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/computers/cyberpower_pc.html

There are several, MUCH better PC builders out there, if you’re not interested in building one for yourself (you’d be shocked how easy it is). I’d recommend checking out Digital Storm Online, they have a great reputation, and have a $799 option that would be much better for GW2 than the $740 computer you linked above: https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=1165716

The hardest part is deciding how to do cable management on your system. But the building part is as easy as playing with Legos. Tons of help videos on Youtube.

Also keep in mind that Intel will be doing the big reveal for their new chipset and CPU next week (the Skylake chips), and depending on how quickly they decide to release them, there may be a significant price drop on computers using the current Intel chips (Haswell, which work just fine for GW2) by next weekend.

First we need to know what display are planning to get as that will also be the resolution which your video card should be able to handle. Second you will need to to remember a laptops advantage are mobility meaning that you have integrated keyboard, mouse and speaker for sound and other external devices that now might want to re-consider to upgrade at the same time.

A good keyboard and mouse can make a large difference for how you play GW2 with reasonable large (physical) display you will be able to see more detail that you might not be able on a laptop screen. For sound you can get stand alone speakers (minimum 5.1 surround system) or headset with external sound card (usb) (7.1 virtual surround sound isn’t that bad) which will make you feel more surrounded by the game environment.

GTX 960 is an entry level video card and I have GTX 970 which work well with this game at 2560 × 1080 pixel on a 29 inch display without getting to extreme range for price vs power. I would recommend you to read up on tech sites that benchmark (=test) video card to get an impression of what to expect from what is on market now. AMDs newest series of video card seem to be better then last generation, but AMD R9 290X was in the same range (both price and performance) as GTX 970 when I bought my own video card. What is important to look for are fans on GPU for cooling as those can be noisy when they ran at max speed (it is here you will see the main difference between a “cheap” brand and a more expensive as bot Nvidia and AMD make reference design which other vendors can change a bit with better power regulator on GPU and cooling solutions.)

I suppose your goal will be relative soundless computer? Then invest in a processor cooler and don’t go cheap with standard cooling from Intel or AMDs OEM. Get kitten for you both your OS and GW2 (minimum 250-256 GB) and later buy a larger HD or another SSD for storage. That way you will avoid to have to move OS to SSD in the future and will have a very silent system (only fans from case, CPU and GPU will be moving) while playing GW2.

Do not get a dual core Intel today for a stationary computer!

You would want to have a quad (four real core) Inten i5 at least to be able to run both OS, game and other things in the back ground. AMDs CPU have design which make them share some resources on processor which make them less optimal in single threaded application like GW2. If you don’t believe me, then search on Internet for how well FX 8320/8350/8370 (the only thing different between these are standard clock) are running against intels i5 4690K (look what kind of clock are being used more then SKU for both FX and i5). Hyper threading (meaning one core produce two threads) on i7 are the only difference from i5.

Something to consider here is that AMD FX series strong point would be if you plan of working with editing (actually re-encoding) large chunks of video (which is also a situation where Hyper Threading from Intel i7 would out perform i5 – on the same clock between i5 vs i7), but both AMD and Nvida nowadays provide integrated chips for encoding on their video cards. If you would want to record your game play in GW2 with Nvidia you would not need an i7 to do that as an example, and neither GPU or CPU will be bogged down from recording thanks to the support of NVENC chip. I am sure that AMD also have the same kind of encoding support to offload GPU and CPU for recoding game play on their latest generation (AMD R9 and newer).

In general start in the right end before buying a ready made system. List what you have for devices you want to connect, what kind of usage and what kind of budget you have!

FX is dead, has been since Haswell’s release. Single threaded, Haswell just KILLS the FX, Multi threading its faster per clock over all. See the attached Screenshot for Multicore.

A dual core CPU is not a bad way to go if you are budget restrained. I would take a G3258 as my dual core choice though with plans to push it to 4.6ghz at a min. A direct upgrade would be a 4690K, 4790K, 5675C, or 5775C depending on budget and need, before you change sockets for skylake. So there are options there.

As for the GPU, GW2 is not a very demanding game. a GTX750Ti would be just fine for high settings at 1080P as long as you have the CPU to back it. And its not display resolution that matters, its the texture resolution. So the higher quality textures you push the faster GPU you need.

IMHO anything above a GTX970, or a R9 290/390 is wasted for GW2 in mind. Only buy faster cards if you are playing newer AAA titles such as Witcher 3.

I recommend checking out sites like Tom’s Hardware. They have monthly recommendations on best gaming CPUs and graphics cards for different price levels. They also have periodic system build “challenges” where they will try to build the best PC for three or four price points and then they do a postmortem on the results.

Building your own PC is easy, but can be confusing and intimidating the first time you do it. I bought my first PC in 1985 and immediately upgraded it with a 20 MB (yes, MB) hard drive and controller card. (GW2’s dat file is more than 1,000 times that size.) I’ve been assembling my own desktops for about the last 20 years. In that time I have assembled a new PC (new motherboard) about every two or three years and roll upgrades down through my PC to my wife’s PC whenever I feel I need a new component. I upgraded more often in the past but with the performance of modern PCs it’s not really worth the money and effort for the small increase in performance.
