So, I was just talking to my sister today and I basically said that I was going to buy the Mac version of Guild Wars 2. So I popped on my own Mac and went to try and purchase it through Arena.net and the only thing showing for ANY game purchase is the new Heart Of Thorns Expansion pac. I don’t have $50 to spend on a fancy expansion pac that i don’t even have myself for my sister, no offense. So I contacted Arena.net with this problem at hand and here’s their response to me:

“Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars 2 Support Team.

Unfortunately, we do not have any information available about this particular topic. However, we frequently update our official website ( http://www.guildwars2.com ), and we encourage you to keep an eye on the site for announcements and updates about the game. Another resource that you may find of value is the Guild Wars 2 Wiki ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/ ) which is a player-created resource with a large amount of helpful information for players.

Regards,

GM Oracle
Guild Wars 2 Support Team"

I’m sitting here, trying to GIVE THEM MY MONEY for this awesome game and this is all they had to say for “help” or “support”. The worst thing about this is, no other store carries the Mac Beta version. I’m am very appalled at the way they are handling this. Then I tried calling their phone lines and was greeted by an automated voice messaging system with no options to actually speak with a human representative about my current dissatisfactory situation. This is the WORST support I ever gotten with a gaming company. Flyff has a better support team and they’re a free-running game. I’m sorry but if you’re selling an MMORPG game for an average of $50 to every person, then I EXPECT some form of organized and engaged customer service.

The only version available now for Windows or Mac through ArenaNet is Heart of Thorns which includes the core game, Guild Wars 2.

You may be able to find a copy of Guild Wars 2 alone at your local retailer. Once you purchase a copy of the game and obtain a Serial Key, you can use that Serial Key to access the Mac or Windows version which you can download from the website.

Good luck.

You don’t have to buy any special “mac beta” versions of the game. You can download Mac or Windows game client once you register your serial key with your account. Simple as that…

As others have pointed out, the mac version doesn’t require a special purchase. You’re paying for an account serial, you use the serial to create an account which you can then play on both Windows and OSX. I regularly switch between…

There isn’t and likely never will be a native Mac version of this game.

The Mac game market is too small for most PC game manufacturers to do a proper port to the Mac and instead choose to use Cider to emulate the Windows specific API calls including DirectX. However if your game is big enough or your studio always treated Mac as a viable game platform (Blizzard, Bungie pre-Microsoft) or you used a game engine that natively supports Mac (is there one?) then it can happen.

For this game it’s likely that Mac support will always be “Beta”.
