OOM Heap crash, 64 bit, 24GB RAM

My game crashes multiple times a day at this point, I have a plenty powerful system:
Intel i7 3930K @ 4.4Ghz
24GB Corsair RAM @ 1600MHz
AMD R9 280x 4GB @ 1050MHz Core and 1500MHz memory
Windows 10 – all updates installed

These crashes mostly happen in heavily populated SW maps, another problem I encounter, don’t know if its related, is a graphics glitch where the ambient occlusion doesn’t update and obscures sprites like name tags and AoE indicators.

I’ve tried running GW2.exe with the repair flag but it didn’t change much. Anyone else having this problem/ know how to fix it?

Here’s what the crash log has to say:

The game’s 32 bit. Even with Large Address Aware the memory heap can get swiss cheesed and an allocation fails.

Restart the game every few hours. Same effect but it will be on your terms at least.

Gotcha. Thanks, makes sense why it always happens in SW now, I just turn on Netflix and train for hours on end.

Also make sure that charactermodel-limit is NOT set to maximum. Medium often
already helps tp prevent OOM crashes. I have also quality on medium and can’t
remember that i ever had an OOM crash.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

This is 100% the only correct advice to deal with OOM crashes. the Game client will peak at 3.25~GB of ram with character limit set to max settings in a really populated zone. and you will ultimately crash at some point. its a well known issue and setting this to medium or lower is the ONLY FIX.

Yes, having lots of full character models vs the generic stand-ins seems to really grind the heap space, accelerating the swiss cheesing of the heap.

Mostly, although a buggy driver could still cause one, but you need at least 8GB of memory for the 64-bit version to run, otherwise it defaults back to the 32-bit version of the client. Unless you are on a Mac and then all you have is the 32-bit.

We are heroes. This is what we do!
