I think there are a couple of causes for this. I remember reading that there is a known issue with 32-bit Windows and nVidia drivers (not sure what version, though) that some people are having.

Another thing that many people are seeing is that GW2 doesn’t have a setting for texture quality on some systems, if the game thinks it cannot use High resolution textures. If you edit the Graphics Options and change the “Textures:” to Medium or Low, that might fix the issue.

Hi mathisk – There is indeed a known issue with Windows 32-bit operating systems and certain Nvidia cards, primarily the GTX cards. We’re still looking into this but at this time there is no ETA for a fix. Players with 32-bit operating systems would be limited to the lower graphics settings as this is meant to prevent the “Out of Memory” crashes.

So unless you are able to upgrade to a 64-bit operating system (and probably add a bit more RAM as well) I am in agreement that lowering some of the graphics options may lessen if not stop the Out of Memory crashes.

Hello.

I have managed to stop the out of memory errors by dropping quality BUT, now the game is purely freezing instead.

Also, check to see what programs you have running in the background – antivirus, etc. See if you can set your virtual memory a little higher as well. Start → Right click Computer → Properties →Advanced system settings → Settings under Performance → Advanced Tab → Change → Set to custom size if not set already using the recommended value.

Unfortunately, with a 32-bit operating system, you can have up to 4GB/RAM and actually only 3.4GB will be usable.

I have the same issue. Everything was running fine (Windows 7, 64-bit), but as of late my guild wars just force closes. It’s really annoying. I even lowered graphics already and Guild Wars 2 now uses 1000KB memory, instead of the usual 1500KB. But it’s still crashing. I don’t know what to do about it. I have 4GB memory in my PC, so I doubt that’s the problem.

And not to mention under a 32bit OS, the per-process limit is only 2GB of RAM. Take into account (as HC pointed out) additional processes running and eating up precious RAM as well.

Ashley, you said it’s a known issue with certain Nvidia cards and 32 bit systems…if that’s the case when will it be fixed? has there been any progress? The game requirements do not say it needs a 64 bit system in order to play…yet even on the lowest settings on my 32 bit system I can’t play for more than 20 mins. This is the only game that has this issue…I can literally play anything out from now on near max settings with zero issues.
I haven’t seen any response from devs on if this issue is even being worked on.

I’m gunna say it where Anet won’t.

This game will never operate properly on a 32bit operating system. There is just too many resources on screen at some points of the game for a 2GB address limit to cope with.

Blaming Nvidia is a copout, its got nothing to do with nvidia. Nvidia actually tends to use less virtual address space than ati’s drivers (differences in texture handling).
