My PC has been really stable since Headstart, but after Oct 15 patch it randomly shuts down. Not in a nice way either – all of a sudden the PC turns off meaning that there is probably a lot of file corruption going on. (have had to do system restore a few times already)
I have tried all the recommended fixes, updated drivers, set ATI Catalyst settings as recommended by Anet. Tried windowed mode etc.
System is a HP Pavilion with
AMD Phenom II X4 830
8GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 4650 (added after purchase of PC – upgraded power supply to match)
Win 7 64 Bit
No other application causes problems with my PC. I don’t overclock or use unusual add-on applications.
I have tried submitting a ticket to Anet Tech. But after several back and forth, the only thing they can suggest is that I update my drivers which I have and it still shuts off. Not immediately but sometime during the game even if all I’m doing is standing at the TP.
I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem. It is not a Blue Screen or crash to desktop. The PC just shuts off without warning. In my experience typically this only happens if the application is trying to do something that will damage the system.
PS: still happens after the Oct 18 patch.
Could u provide more info like checking ur processor and graphics cards temperatures with this program http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
It sounds like somethings overheating if theres no error given during shutdown.

I ran Speccy (which is what the Anet techs asked me to do).
Anyway the CPU runs at around 117 deg F and the GPU runs at around 139 deg F.
You do make a good point though, perhaps the patch somehow increased CPU/GPU load and has upped the peak temp. Note I am not overclocking anything.
I’l try opening the side of the PC and blowing a fan at the insides. Totally hack solution for a problem that didn’t exist before, but if it works it will be worth it.

FYI the temps listed above were without GW2 running, GPU temp leapt to over 170 deg F with the game running, CPU wnt up to around 120 def F. After I opened the side and put a small portable fan blowing in the temperature of the GPU stabilized to under 170 deg and CPU to under 115.
So far no crashes yet.
Hopefully this is the problem solution. Surprising that the Anet tech did not suggest an overheat problem with the shutdown as the symptom.
