I have not had any problems with gw2 since launch…maybe an odd crash here and there which I believe is acceptable. I have played WOW in the past with no problems. Then switched to SWTOR. Could not play SWTOR properly on my system and waited for Gw2 – game has played to my liking since Aug 6th 2013 patch.
Since doing the Jublilee events – My computer just turns off. Especially when starting on the event with lots of people there. I have tried low settings – high settings. I am monitoring my temps while playing GW2 and my GPU 43C and CPU Quad core highest temps were 60-70C (my cpu specs says it should not run past 71C). Only runs this hot with new patch only in gw2.
Nothing is overlocked.
You may need to check your event viewer and see if any events correspond with your shutdowns.
70c is fairly close to overheating, you may want to open your system up and give it a thorough cleaning and possible dust bunny eviction. Pay extra attention to the fans and heat sinks. Thermal paste may need to be re-applied.

This is a great monitoring program that could help troubleshoot other possible issues. You can post a screenshot of that while running gw2 for 10 minutes. (Use more posting & formatting options below)

Ty Kyla…I am already monitoring my temperatures with that program and my machine has no dustbunnies.
Day before patch – game worked fine, no overheating, was able to do dungeons and stay logged in for hours.
Day after patch – game overheats my CPU
I don’t think I grew an awful lot of dustbunnies overnight on a new machine.
I am posting about the issue, because Arenanet needs to be aware that since this new patch, something (their game) is causing our systems to use a lot of resources to overheat.
My GPU is fine and not overheating, just the CPU.

Can you reapply the thermal paste between your CPU and cooler?

Well I guess that would be my next step. But it just seems odd that everything was working fine one day, the next overheating issues, and the only change to gw2 is the Jubilee patch.

It’s a hardware problem with your CPU cooling.
Yes, the GW2 code has changed and is now using more of the CPU than it did before – at least on my dual-core AMD.
Before the patch, CPU usage was (roughly) 60-80%. After the patch, CPU usage ranges from 87-92% with my character just standing there. It varies between 96% and 99% in small PvE combat on my system.
These numbers are approximate and taken from the readout on my G15 keyboard.
Your CPU should be able to run at 100% indefinitely without overheating.

Well playing today after all the patches overnight – and this afternoon, they must have made some changes, as my cpu gets to 40-45C now when doing the Jublillee. Highest I saw it was 50C using HWMonitor. I used that monitoring software yesterday when it got to 70C and would turn my PC off.
No PC turn off to protect itself after playing for 10-15 minutes now. Was able to do two event bosses in succession and waited around and did a third…
So I am happy now it wasn’t my system.
@Asmodal
Something else to consider with random shutdowns is your power supply.
A failing PSU is often the cause of such shutdowns. No shutdown process just a loss of power.

Download Prime95.
Run it for half hour to an hour.
If your PC overheats u need better cooling.
If your PC crashes, the CPU is unstable, check the bios u may needo t tweek things.
Full crash test runs over 12 hours but i wouldnt worry about that.
Prime95 isnt the perfect 1 and only test program, as a CPU with an OC can pass a Prime run but fail a IBT run for example, or a OCCT run. or vise versa.
It could be an error in ur GW2 installation simply causing a software crash, but from what u said about temps it sounds like a hardware issue thats rearing its head nwo that GW2 is pushing ur system a bit harder.

Like I said, problem fixed with yesterdays updates. No overheating of my CPU. I am back to playing as before the patch.
