Guild Wars 2

Like many players I’ve been experiencing bad FPS in this game (I’ve a post in the FPS thread). One thing I’ve noticed though after firing up GPU-Z is that my PCI express card seems to not be using everything it can. (I’m not techy so sorry about that).

It says under interface that my AMD Radeon HD 6900 is capable of PCI-express x 16 v2.0 but is currently running at pci-express x1 v2.0

I read elsewhere that running 3dmark can fix it but it didn’t. There was also no change when I fired up GW2.

Could this be causing my horrible frame rates? If so, how do I fix it? (Drivers all up to date and PC is set to high performance but no diff).

The first thing to check is: is the card in a PCIe 16 slot? Usually, the PCI 16 slots are close to the CPU and colored differently from the normal PCIe slots.

When your card is idlleing it will automaticly drop the bus speed down to x1 as part of the power svaing feature as soon as your gaming again it should automaticly go back up to x16 on it’s own.

We need to know what motherboard you’re using before any accurate response can be made. (This includes which slot the GPU is slotted in)
