I just took this traceroute about 5 minutes prior to posting this (due to login time and typing lol) immediately after I started to experience a significant amount of lag in-game. This lag includes extended loading times, delay in loading into WvW (I sat in the world for about 30 seconds before the loading screen even appeared), delay in transferring items to bank/guild bank, managing inventory, vendoring items, some movement stutter as well as input/skill lag.

Yes, there is some latency in chicago… that is typical for this time of day, but rarely causes me lag issues in-game. What is to note is the latency and packet loss on the Anet Server 64.25.32.26 (hop 12)

This one is taken just a few minutes later:

You can see this issues is fleeting as it ebbs and wanes throughout the day/evening, particularly at prime times. But here you can see there is no packet loss, but there is still a server lag associated. It is currently roughly about 5pm US server time.

I have been experiencing some rubber banding for the last 30 mins (prior to running the trace route) while I was completing my story (retribution), but it wasn’t that unmanageable for me, it caused me to dodge INTO attacks rather than out of them, but I survived intact for the most part.

And one more for good measure. Each trace route has been completed 5 minutes apart over the course of 15 minutes. My lag is currently minimal, but I haven’t done anything requiring any significant amount of data, just testing skill input at the moment in the WvW starting area.

I truly hope this can help Anet find and resolve this issue for players experiencing worse than this.

Hello Kyllaa,
These traces actually look normal. Nothing really out of the ordinary except some slightly high rtts on the last couple hops. I would recommend instead of trying to run traces when you experience lag, try using a tool like Resource Monitor (Windows) or Activity Monitor (OS X) while you play the game. You can see real time data like latency, packet loss, ports, ip addresses & send/receive B/sec. It’s very useful and can be logged for analysis later. It would be helpful if you could post results especially like a log or screenshots of the Gw2.exe Latency shown by the monitor. My Gw2.exe latency fluctuates from 60+ (ms) to over 290 (ms) second by second while playing the game. This can be one indication of congestion at the load balancers that handle the server access traffic. Give it a shot and see if you have any latency fluctuations while monitoring. The game is is still very playable with the wide fluctuations. Yet for the players that have poor, asymetric connections at their local loops, and limited upload bandwidths or poor peer routing, or are far away from the home servers they play on, it can be a very frustrating experience with the network stack employed in the game.

I’m sorry, I don’t see what you’re talking about with the Mac activity monitor. I run it constantly while playing and I can assure you I know the difference between my system latency and network latency. I’ve run these tests multiple times while experiencing lag and not.

I’ve only experienced lag when I see numbers like shown above, in particular, the first example of the traceroute run. I don’t have lag any other time, even when my #4 hop has some latency, it never actually affects my game play. But you can clearly see that there is a significant packet loss in the first traceroute run which is when I was experiencing the most significant lag. It may not be 100% everything conclusive, but it may help the Anet team find other details they need to resolve the significant increase in players experiencing lag. And honestly, I don’t have nearly the issues that others do.

I just followed the examples as shown here:

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9245

Anyway, I’m just providing details here for the Anet devs to view.

Just about 30 mins ago i noticed how my lag was completely gone as i decided to guest on another server. The server that i play on is Gandara i had huge lag there today….So now i can’t be so sure about anet support telling me that my internet connection is causing this, besides everything else that’s using my internet works just fine.Seems like some servers are causing this….
