Hi there,

I hope someone here could address my concern. I was temporarily suspended last week because Anet suspects that I was doing an unauthorised payment to buy GW2 using my own credit card. After 4 days of putting up my ticket, a manager had helped me in releasing my account but at the same time voided my 1st payment and disabled my 1st serial code.

While I am glad someone has unblock my account but now, I had to pay a higher price of $59.99 to repurchase a new serial code because I bought this game during the Christmas special offer at $44.95. I did ask if they could allow me to repurchase the game at the same price that I initially bought but they apologised and said that since the promotion period is over, I will have to buy the game at the current price.

I do feel slightly upset at this because I didn’t do anything wrong in the 1st place and bought the game at a promotion price but I ended up having to pay a higher price for something that I wasn’t at fault to begin with.

Hence I would like to put up an appeal here to see if the mods here could help understand my point of view and return me back my $15. Thank you.

I am sorry, but we are not able to give you a partial refund or extend the promotional price. You can certainly discuss this with an agent, but that is the policy.

The proper thing for ANET (Since it was an error on ANETs side) is to allow enph to purchase a new key at the promotional price. If its completely against the policy, perhaps the policy needs to have exceptions.

German laws would actually force them to do so as it was a valid contract. Dunno about other countries.

This is some really messed up stuff. You mean Anet can make a mistake or even intentionally do something like this to make you pay full price and then just say well nothing we can do. Then for all the bans proven false, no compensation what so ever for the lost time just Anet saying well, sorry nothing we can do. That is pretty disheartening, sorries magically fix anything for you guys and we are forced to be satisfied with it even when you are entirely in the wrong, yet when players make mistakes sorry is worthless. I just don’t get how that works you KNOW it was your mistake and yet refuse to do anything about it. -_-

I agree with Hilda Raven, the fact that Anet’s bad mistake rip you of that promotional price and then say sorry but now you’ll have to pay more because of our error seems silly to me. If anet didn’t suspend you in the first place that’s the price you would of paid, seems to be they just care about getting that extra bit of money other then making a customers experiance better.
I’d say if you have not already brought it forget about trying to get it at that promotional price and search elsewear for the game as some of the other retailers sell it slightly cheaper.

To echo what Iruwen said, I think it’d be an illegal practice by ANet in most if not all of EU. The law is very clear on that point and very strong in regards to the consumer.

I think it would be best to claim for leniency. Somebody threatened with a lawyer seldom goes beyond the things he has to do according the law.

Hopefully more people will continue posting about how inane this is….
ANet needs a SERIOUS rework of it’s policies before they kill off their game even more than they already have.
Things like this and the banning of so many accounts due to ANet’s mistake (when they apparently forgot to double check to see if salvaging a certain item would end up being too profitable) are completely killing their legitimacy.

I understand your opinions. I am simply stating that we do not have the means to offer “partial refunds.” And that is not exclusively our issue, but is common with many on-line retailers, as well. This isn’t a “tell ArenaNet what to do” thread. I am fully sympathetic with this situation, but do be aware that there may be more to the issue than is readily apparent and it’s not appropriate to judge the situation from an outsider’s viewpoint, since you don’t have all the details.

To put it more clearly, there are credit cards that are flagged as “possibly fraudulent” that we, upon review, decide to take a chance and accept. And yes, we are taking the risk that the CC will be rejected and we’ll incur the additional costs of handling that issue. (Costs which, I imagine, exceed any profit made through a normal sale.) Now, I am decidedly not saying that this would be the case here, so I’m not pointing at this case. But I believe you may benefit from knowing a general point of business about which you may have been unaware. I feel it’s only fair to make those of you with such strong viewpoints aware that credit card and fraud issues are seldom black-and-white, and most don’t have easy-peasy solutions.

Again, I wish we could help anyone who is prevented from purchasing and then must pay more to buy the game but I know there are a dozen reasons that can happen — few of them on our end.
