I went to change my password after receiving emails suggesting that someone from China was accessing my account.

Requiring a completely unique password seems like a ridiculous requirement, and I almost gave up after multiple failed attempts to change it.

There’s no way I’m actually going to be able to remember the password, so I’ll probably end up having to have a password reset done and go through this process again the next time I want to log in.

I understand that you’re trying to protect users, and I appreciate that, but this seems like overdoing it.

Considering that I get at least three of these e-mails per day (due to Chinese hackers constantly trying to guess my password) – and I know that I’m not alone, here – I honestly wonder if changing passwords will even make a difference against such a determined effort to break into our accounts.

Sadly, I’m guessing that nothing can really be done to put the boot down, being that almost all MMO server hosting is done in China now. Prosecuting them would simply lead to reprisals.

Still, that is no reason for the GW2 team to consider increasing their own security. How hard would it be to link accounts to a “Country of Origin” and simply auto-reject any log-in attempt that comes from somewhere else? I seriously doubt there are enough jet setting GW2s playing on laptops from their company leer jets to make protesting such a measure into an issue.

Maybe you should consider adding authenticator to your account ?

With VPN, hackers can mask their IP to the right “Country of Origin”.

I have a very long, unique and cryptic password for GW2 nobody can remember. I do this for most of my accounts all over the internet, using http://keepass.info/
It’s a password manager. Do I have to say more about it?
