So I downloaded GW2 for my Mac OS X and I only get around 20 fps (I think that’s what it’s called, fps? fpm? Frames per something). I have the graphics set on low and everything, so it runs okay SOMETIMES. It gets pretty choppy during larger battles but runs smoothly when I’m just running around or fighting 1v1. Any tips? Advice? I love this game, and would LOVE to see it in a higher frame rate.

It’s frames per second (fps). If you’re already playing on low, there’s not much that can be done. What Mac do you have?

For reference, I play on low on a MBP 15" mid-2010 (i5, 330M) with an SSD and get about 15 fps in mid-populated areas.

If you need more fps (for WvW for example), you’ll probably want to keep playing on Windows.

I have a Mac OS x Version 10.7.5… I can play StarCraft 2 on medium settings and it’s fine…

In terms of FPS, is there a setting in the game to get the number or do I have to purchase a program to do this as I have been always curious on the FPS on my mac?

Thanks,

MBP-17" Oct-2011 (i7) 8gb, AMD Radeon HD 6770M & HD3000.

qaasq, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Technical-Problems-Post-Your-System-Specs

DonQ, you can see the FPS in the bottom right corner of the Options menu.

Thanks dipnlik. I found about that on my own after checking the option screen. I just wish there was a way to see it when running around the game world without opening the option screen.

I get about 60-75fps in towns and around 55-70fps in battle on the mac or running around the game world. I haven’t tried WvW. Setting are set to low and medium.

TinyGoliah – your okay to run the game in high setting, but this is forum for mac users not windows.

I use the 2012 Mac Book Pro with the retina display (LG one unfortunately) and have to lower resolution to get decent game performance.

Hopefully, you folks have seen this post:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Mac-Beta-Client-Config-Tweaks-Files

I have a Mid 2009 15-inch MacBook Pro that doesn’t technically meet the Mac Beta system requirements. I had been running GW2 in Windows on medium settings okay. After tweaking my config file to include all the VRAM available to me with my GeForce 9600 GT, I was able to up my graphics settings in OSX and get about 10 fps more!

I haven’t tried the new config settings in WvWvW, yet. It was intolerable in OSX, before.

i brought GW2 for 2011 iMac 2,7 ghz i5, 4 GB ram, Radeon hd 6770m 512mb, lion 10.7.5

it runs fantastic settings on high. The only thing turned down was the resolution to 1920 × 1080 where as the native resolution is 2560 × 1440. I kinda do that with a lot of mac games for better fps. and its not to much of a graphical hit…

hope that helps people buying for this iMac

Yeah. That’s not a laptop to run games on. I don’t think there is much you can do about the performance.

An option would be to install windows on a partition and see if that gives better performance…

Would this help?

Would what help? Buying that MacBook? No, that wouldn’t help at all. The 13inch model is not suited for demanding games.

Lilsteeles recommendation is worth trying: the game runs much better under Windows, especially when your hardware is at the bottom of the performance scale.

The Mac Beta Client is officially supported by ArenaNet so we do not need to rely on estimations wether a specific Mac is suitable for gaming or not.
ArenaNet has published the minimum system requirements for Guild Wars 2 here: https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1119
Hardware meeting those requirements should provide you with smooth gameplay on lowest settings.
Since qaasq’s MacBook perfectly meets the minimum system requirements and the gameplay is okay only sometimes this clearly is a case for a support ticket.

Naqaj, qaasq was referring to my post asking for system specs.

qaasq, thanks for the screenshot. As others said, your system is supported by Anet, but it just barely makes the cut, so you won’t really have great performance in OS X. I’d say it’s “ok” for PvE, since my wife plays in her MBP that’s even older than yours.
