Greetings!

I have GTX570 , but i still keep my Q9550 cpu. I never had bottleneck in any game before untill now. Im quite sure that GTX570 can handle this game on max graphics settings, but i dont see this game perform so well. i have it on ultra but sometimes i feel my fps drop to 25. For some reason i can feel very small fps difference between lets say 45 and 50(dunno why but i see it), but seeing fps at some points drop to 25 from 60 is extremely painful.

What do you think, is cpu bottlenecking or is there a different issue with game not being optimized or something?

This game is CPU intensive so most likely it is your CPU.

Hi Yuri,

I have the same processor as you and currently have no overclock enabled on the processor. I also use it in conjunction with a Nvidia Geforce GTX480.

I get an average of 50 – 60 fps on high details but the settings I disable are reflections and shaders as they have known bugs that affect your FPS when turning the camera.

I don’t believe the cpu to be a bottleneck but others on these forums seem to think these generation of processors are “outdated”.

Hello Nitro. my fps on average is same as yours. most of the time its 60. But on some occasions i feel it drop to 30 or even 25. Ive played games with much better graphics(Like Mass Effect 3) and my system didnt even brake a sweat.

Its just weird.

I really hoped that this cpu and mobo will last untill DDR4 comes out =[

This game isn’t well optimized. Any cpu will struggle. You CPU is still pretty good.

Any news on when do they intend to optimize it?

If you get a sudden drop in fps, it sometimes is because the tempurture of the circuits heats up. you might consider getting additional cooling for your gaming rig/laptop

Yuri,

Try disabling the Reflections and shaders/shadows options or atleast set to low for testing, there is a known bug that when these are set to high/ultra they can affect FPS dramatically when turning your camera view.

It would help to know where these drops occur. If this is 25fps in WvW during a zerg, or during a PvE boss zerg, they look about right. There isn’t a CPU on the market that can run ultra + constant 60 in WvW, and it’s very unlikely we’ll see any large changes to the engine (especially not the 100-300% people expect). Lowering settings is all you can do.

As for outdated or not, in a few months the Qxxxx and Exxxx will be over 5 years old. Since Yorkfield, we’ve had Nehalem, Westmere, Sandy, and now Ivy. As nice as it would be for PC hardware to have a shelf life similar to kitchen appliances, that just isn’t the case. And if it were we’d probably see as much improvement in performance as the compressor in your fridge has had in the last 20 years — none. Not that playing Everquest is necessarily a bad thing…

(Based on hwbot, I’d put Yorkfield at about 33% slower clock-for-clock than Ivy).

OP you answered your own question.

GPU usage less than 99% when fps is lower than your cap ? Then its being slowed down by somthing in your ocmputer ..95% of the time thats your CPU. (ignore cpu utilization ..its >NOT< ALWAYS the way you find out if its bottlenecking)

Additionaly ..the Q9550 is an old cpu..its much slower than modern day cpu’s that are clocked lower. This is due to the archecture of the cpu and how it works.

I overclocked my CPU and saw a jump from 20-30 fps to constant 60 (using vsync). A lot of other people see the exact same results. The point is, it wouldn’t hurt to slowly up your clocks and see what happens.

Strangely, I get the weird black screen hang where the music will continue to play, but I digress. Don’t bother tweaking your GPU first, everything starts with your mobo and CPU.
